A bit about the owners of Hamsa Handmade:
Cynthu Muthusamy graduated in 2014 with a BFA in Printmaking and Humanistic Studies with a concentration in Book Arts from Maryland Institute College of Art. She is a first generation American, spending her childhood growing up between her home in New Jersey and her family that lives in the South Indian region of Tamil Nadu. Cynthu's avid interest in indi
genous culture, Goddess worship, and post-colonial identity has lead her to create multidisciplinary work integrating the fields of fine art printmaking, performance art, and academic writing. She currently resides in Baltimore City, Maryland and hopes to raise awareness in earth revering traditions as well as incorporating sustainable practices in daily life. Katie Emmitt graduated with a BFA in Painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2014. She is a 22 year-old visual artist, flow artist, hoop maker, and teacher from Annapolis, MD. Katie started her hoop-teaching career in 2012 by posting dozens of free online YouTube tutorials – by 2014 she had over 8,000 subscribers on YouTube. This past year, Katie embarked on a nation wide hoop tour – hitting 38 states in a matter of four months, and teaching over 30 hoop workshops across the US. She continues to teach both locally and up and down the East Coast while running her online shop, kemmitthoops.com.
