I arrived on site expecting a normal lock service. Empty house. Then I saw the door.

The lock had already been drilled badly. The deadbolt was destroyed, the door was chewed up, and the hardware was completely mangled. This wasn’t wear and tear. This was the result of someone who didn’t know what they were doing.

Here’s the part that made it worse: the realtor wasn’t even there. He was sitting comfortably in his office, telling me over the phone, “It’s an easy drill,” and explaining how he already “budgeted” for getting the door unlocked and replacing the hardware. In other words, he hired a cheap or inexperienced locksmith, the job went wrong, and now he wanted someone else to clean up the mess on a tight budget.

I told him the truth. This wasn’t a simple fix anymore. The door was damaged, the lock was destroyed, and doing it right would cost more than he expected. His response? Acting like drilling a lock is no big deal.

That’s when I stopped the job and told him straight: if it’s so easy, you’re welcome to come do it yourself.
