Summer is the best time to see reptiles crawling, swimming and slithering about. There are snakes and lizards and turtles. If you are lucky, you might even see one of Will County’s endangered turtle species — the Blanding’s turtle.

This is the third batch of Blanding's turtle hatchlings the Forest Preserve District has received as part of a regional recovery program for the state-endangered species. They will be released into the wild in late summer or fall of 2021.

Welcome little Blandings...

Wednesday’s journey into the marsh featured the first cohort in 25 years that included captive-bred turtles from Brookfield Zoo.
