This custom-built coffee nook was designed around a daily routine most people never think to include in the planning stage. A quiet place to start the morning, sit down for a conversation, or take a break without needing the entire kitchen to function around it.

The built-in bench seating and placement beside the window were intentional. It’s simple, functional, and designed to feel like it always belonged there.

Homes work better when they’re built around the way people actually live in them. Sometimes that looks like a large entertaining space. Sometimes it’s a small corner that becomes part of someone’s everyday routine.

This wine room was designed to hold around 850 bottles, using a mix of individual racks to both store and showcase the collection. Every element has a purpose, including a custom-built air vent designed to blend into the space while keeping the environment properly controlled.

And then there’s the part most people don’t think about. Wine needs to stay in contact with the cork to preserve it, which means bottles have to be rotated over time. It’s a small detail, but one that matters.

When needed, Ben, the owner, will stop by and rotate the bottles himself.

“One thing that I love about my job is I’m able to design this… build it… and also come in and help,” Ben shared. “We were able to bring all of his wine here… I was able to stack it and organize it…”

This level of care doesn't stop once the project is finished. We show up and stay involved with the people we build for; stepping in to handle details our clients don't have time for, and making sure the spaces we've built continue to function the way they were intended.

The second floor trusses are in, and Ben was on site laying out where the plumbing would run to avoid conflicts with the floor system.

That coordination happens while the work is being set, not after it’s in place.

Being present during layout, framing, and each phase that follows keeps the build functional, efficient, and aligned with the plan.

This is how mistakes are avoided before they get covered up.

More progress from the Ellijay custom home coming soon.

“Unflipping” is a term used to describe restoring a space back to the character and design it was originally built with, rather than covering it up with whatever trend came later.

That’s the direction we want to take with this office renovation.

The office was originally built in 1956, and while there are parts of the space that need to be updated, we also want to hold onto the details and design choices that give the building its character.

There’s value in respecting the original build and making decisions that work with the architecture instead of against it.

A lot of the inspiration behind this mindset comes from the work being shared by .flipping.

For the bathroom in our new office, we want to lean into a mid-century modern direction that feels authentic to the character of the building.

We spent the morning narrowing down the combinations for the floor and wall tiles, talking through materials, layout, and how everything would work together once installed.

Having the right people guide those decisions was very important to us. Thank you for helping us find the perfect tile selections for our office renovation.

More updates coming soon.

The heart of the home…

A kitchen should be designed for how you will use it every day, not a trend of the moment.

A custom home is built around you, not just the blueprints and design choices. When that’s the starting point, layout decisions begin to carry more weight than aesthetics alone. How you move through the space and where things are stored start to work together in a way that supports your daily routine.

A truly custom design is defined by how well it performs over time, without sacrificing the quality or functionality it was built for.

Framing is underway at the Ellijay custom home, and the floor trusses for the second level are going in.

This is one of the most exciting stages of a custom home build. Layout decisions start to become visible, and the homeowners can begin to see the space more clearly.

We’ll keep sharing how each phase is managed and what goes into building a high-quality, functional home.

Office Renovation Ep. 1 | The History Behind the Build

Ben’s family moved to Forsyth County in 1978, and has watched it grow from a much smaller community into what it is today. Now, nearly five decades later, we are putting down roots in a place that reflects that history.

This building was originally built in 1956 as a dental office and was previously an insurance company. Now it’s becoming the official office building of Benjamin Andrew Construction.

We are so grateful to have a place for the business to call home. 🏠💼

Follow along as we start opening up the space and show you our next steps.

This week at our Ellijay project, we’re tackling the challenge of hillside construction with a big boom truck to get the job done right. 🏗️✨
