What a day! We led a fantastic demo for the public on drip irrigation out on the rooftops of Sweet Auburn 💧🌱

We joined Food Well Alliance, Sweet Auburn Green & Equitable, Historic District Development Corporation, and NxtLevel Development Inc at The Front Porch on Auburn for a morning of learning, building, and getting MORE THAN 100 raised beds hooked up to automated drip line.

Big thanks to everyone who helped make it happen! 🧡

This client’s garden is collecting stormwater with style 😎🗝️

They call them “keyhole berms” because of their u-shape, maximizing water collection and retention. We overlapped our keyholes, effectively slowing and collecting as much stormwater as we can before it reaches the house. The stormwater collected in the keyholes then percolate down and passively irrigates the plants growing within them. We also added permeable flagstone paths providing easy access for planting, harvesting, and maintenance.

1. Painted lady butterfly (Vanessa cardui) on purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea)
2. Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) in flower
3. Celosia / cockscomb (Celosia sp.) in flower

Can you spot the differences? 🔍

Invasive shrub removal was the main theme of this Maintenance and Restoration project. When our M&R team enters a new space, they observe, take inventory of the space, and make their adjustment. Then, rinse and repeat. This incremental processing is a big asset when implementing Habitat Restoration. Continuous contact. This is how we allow native species the space and resource to thrive and healthier ecological conditions to take hold.
