We love our clients, and especially love when we get to help them grown their business. ‘s first location opened in the spring of 2020 if you can believe it. But they not only survived, they grew the company.
Now we’ve finished helping with their second location in Lenox. Their brand has evolved and we, alongside helped them grow into their new space with soft gentle curves and an extra calming material palette.

Even as their company grows up, the space still feels perfectly suited to little newborns.

From sketch to reality.
Sometimes it’s fancy 3d models and drawings that explain an idea, sometimes it’s a hand sketch.
The stair sets the tone of this house. The vertical pickets are the first thing you see when you enter, and they filter the light from the skylight way above, giving this warm layered effect.
Kudos to they are great to work with on this project and this stair design was a close collaboration!

Tom Kundig has been without a doubt one of my most influential architects. I got his first Houses book while in college and memorized the thing, drawing over the plans to understand how you moved through them and viscerally experience the space.

It was such an honor to meet him. A super kind and considerate guy, easy to talk to and with no ego.
Instead of taking the spotlight at the .arch symposium, Steve Rainville of was the project architect and described their great new project on the beltline in Old Fourth.

It’s exactly that kind of generosity, excitement about architecture, and love of working with others that is why it’s called arcus.

Love the natural texture of this wood siding. Nothing like the real thing. You don’t always notice it, and then the sun hits it just right.
Still under construction, the wood siding is Accoya stained black from . The soffit on the upper left is douglas fir. The black wood can stand up to the weather and sunlight, the doug fir adds the warmth, inside and out.
The great thing about natural materials is that they will always look just like what they really are. With a lot of faux materials, the longer they weather the more they show their true selves, which is often times a mix of plastic or cement. So as they get older, something just looks a bit off.
Natural materials age gracefully, the Meryl Streep of wall cladding.

The ArtsThrive project wraps the entire block, with a blackbox theatre on one side, clinic and daycare offices along the street, and a community center and on the other side with apartments above.

In the lobby, the entry wall of the theater is faceted in and out with a long skylight above it. It creates a lot of depth and stands out even from the street. As the sun passes overhead, the lighting is constantly changing throughout the day, adding its own bit of drama to the space.

Throwback to our ArtsThrive project for the Atlanta Artist Relief Fund. During the pandemic, we helped them imagine a new mixed use space that could accommodate everything from a blackbox theater to a community garden to a rehearsal and maker space plus a whole lot more. The whole thing centered around a central courtyard with a green roof draped on top of the building. More pictures and info on the website.

Sun plots are fun and all, but sometimes you just need to know where to put the pool. This plan diagram shows all the cumulative daylight from spring to fall and takes into account nearby buildings and trees. It makes it easy to see what parts of the area get the best light. We put the pool directly in the path with the most direct sunlight. Be sure to wear plenty of sunscreen.

Even a generic building can be transformed into a great place to work.
Vote now for the AIA GA awards. Link in bio.
The Crux Retail project was a major renovation of an existing generic industrial building into a bright and inviting space for design and fabrication.
We added new windows and doors and removed the strange hat the building had been wearing for decades. The carefully placed windows bring a lot of light into the spaces and create a musical pattern on the facade. The warm wood and orange wall on the inside are visible through the glass and glow like a lantern.

The foundation walls are in at the Rest!

The house is as close to the water as the area allows, meaning the concrete truck stayed up the hill and used a very long straw.
