We recently spent time visiting European churches, and Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg absolutely blew us away.

Construction started in 1015. It took over 400 years to finish. Erwin von Steinbach designed the main structure in the 1300s, and honestly—standing inside, you just get why it took that long.

The roofs. We couldn’t stop staring at them. It’s like someone figured out how to make stone dance. You walk in and look up and your brain kind of breaks a little. The way those ribs curve and meet, like they’re holding the whole thing up but also making it feel like it’s floating somehow.

No extra stuff. Just perfectly thought-out stone and light.

Walking out, we both looked at each other like, “That’s what we want to do with homes.”

This week we toured the Basilica of Saint Lawrence's Phase 1 restoration with Construction and we left with a clearer understanding of what serious preservation looks like.

Blum's team was clear about their north star: water management. It's the primary threat to the building's longevity and it's being addressed systematically, from the copper dome to every detail of the masonry and roofing systems.

The Basilica has lasted 100 years. Blum Construction isn't just maintaining it - they're building it to last another 100. That's the mindset. That's the commitment.
