5 Common Post Frame Building Mistakes (From People Who Definitely ‘Know a Guy’) 🏗️
Post frame buildings are simple… until they’re not.
When done right, they’re solid for decades.
When done wrong, they become a very expensive life lesson.
Here are 5 mistakes we see (that are completely avoidable):
1️⃣ “The Ground Looks Flat Enough” 🌧️
Ah yes. The famous last words of site prep.
✔️ Proper grading and drainage matter. Water will always win — unless you plan for it.
2️⃣ Posts Set… Somewhere Down There 📏
Depth? Compaction? Frost line?
“Eh, it’ll probably be fine.”
✔️ Your entire building depends on what’s in the ground. Correct treatment, correct depth, solid base. This part isn’t guesswork.
3️⃣ The “Standard Plan Should Work” Approach ❄️
We live in Wisconsin. Snow doesn’t politely sit on your roof.
✔️ Buildings should be engineered for local snow and wind loads — not copied from a state where winter is a suggestion.
4️⃣ Creative Screw Placement 🔩
If the screw lines zig-zag like modern art… that’s not intentional.
✔️ Straight panels. Proper spacing. Manufacturer specs followed on purpose.
5️⃣ The Mysterious Estimate 📋
One line. One big number. No details.
Bold strategy.
✔️ A clear scope of work should outline what’s included — and what’s not. Surprises are great for birthdays, not construction projects.
Here’s the truth:
A well-built post frame structure shouldn’t feel risky. It should feel solid, square, and boring in the best way possible.
We believe in doing things the right way — not the fast way, not the cheap way, not the “good enough” way.
Just solid buildings. The kind that don’t become stories people tell later.
