Sapele Exterior Trim — Built in Our Shop

For this project, we fabricated the exterior trim completely in our shop using solid Sapele, then our team handled the installation in the field. We built the sill, bed molding, and cap specifically for the project, allowing us to control the fit, proportions, and craftsmanship from start to finish.

Sapele is an excellent choice for high-end exterior millwork. It offers:
Excellent hardness and durability — around 1,400+ on the Janka hardness scale, making it resistant to dents and wear.

Natural decay resistance — Sapele heartwood is rated moderately durable to durable, making it well suited for properly detailed exterior applications.

Good dimensional stability — its relatively favorable shrinkage characteristics help it perform well as exterior joinery.

Excellent finishing qualities — Sapele sands, glues, and finishes well, allowing the natural grain and color to really stand out.

This is the kind of exterior detail that gets overlooked when it's done right—but it's exactly what separates custom millwork from off-the-shelf trim.

Built in our shop. Installed by our team. Made to last.

We are excited to be part of the restoration of a home that is approaching 300 years old. Projects like this are a rare opportunity to help preserve a piece of history while ensuring it remains protected for generations to come.
Our current scope includes the installation of new windows supplied by the owner, along with the recreation of the home's original exterior trim details. Because preserving the architectural character of the house is so important, we are custom milling each trim profile in-house to match the original historic moldings that have defined this home for centuries.
For the exterior trim, we are using Red Grandis, a sustainable plantation-grown tropical hardwood known for its durability, stability, and excellent performance in exterior applications. This allows us to maintain the historic appearance of the home while utilizing a responsibly sourced material built to withstand the elements.
We look forward to sharing more progress as this remarkable restoration continues.

Preserving the character of a historic home takes more than simply replacing windows—it requires attention to every detail that makes the home what it is.

As we continue the window replacement on this beautiful historic property, we're giving the trim the same level of care. Each window is receiving new beaded 5/4 casing, custom milled in-house to match the original historic brick molding profile and maintain the architectural integrity of the home.

For this project, we're using Red Grandis, a premium hardwood that machines exceptionally well, holds a sharp, clean profile, and offers superior durability compared to the finger-jointed products commonly used today. While many historic homes are often repaired with synthetic materials such as PVC, we believe a home of this caliber deserves real wood and historically appropriate craftsmanship.

Red Grandis is a material worthy of a home with this much history and character. Our goal isn't to make the trim look new. Our goal is to make it look like it was never changed at all. That's what true restoration craftsmanship is all about.

This is the kind of work we take pride in, preserving the details that make these homes special while ensuring they'll continue to stand the test of time for generations to come.

From Rot to Remarkable

This deck had reached the end of its life. Years of exposure had taken their toll, leaving structural rot and unsafe framing beneath the surface.

We started with a complete demolition and rebuilt it the right way:

✔ Pressure-treated LVL framing
✔ Treated glulam beams
✔ Premium Ipe hardwood decking
✔ Low-maintenance aluminum railing system
✔ Built for strength, durability, and decades of outdoor enjoyment

The result is a deck that not only looks incredible but is engineered to stand up to the elements for years to come.

When it comes to outdoor living spaces, what’s underneath matters just as much as what you see on top.

We're currently working on a home built in 1733 — and every detail matters. The existing exterior trim needed to be replaced, so we had custom knives made to match the original profile exactly. The result? A perfect reproduction of the trim that's been on this home for nearly 300 years.

For the material, we chose Red Grandis — a sustainably sourced tropical hardwood known for its outstanding rot resistance and beautiful grain. It's built to last while honoring the historical integrity of this remarkable property.

This is the kind of craftsmanship we love — where history and quality meet.
