This beauty is about to get the full renovation treatment and we’re pumped to kick it off later this year!

Taking the old pool back down to the original shell, ripping out every inch of that dated exposed aggregate decking, and building something special. We’re adding a sleek modern tanning ledge, installing large-format limestone with turf inlays, and layering in all the rich texturing and naturally occurring materials our client loves.

Leaning hard into their passion for European sitting gardens — think timeless elegance, intimate spaces, and that perfect mix of stone, greenery, and relaxed luxury.

Can’t wait to watch this one come together.

Closeout Week — The One Where the Breakup is Mutual 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

We’re wrapping up one of the biggest backyard transformations we’ve ever built in South Georgia — and y’all— it’s looking INSANE!

Just a few final punch-list items remain: dialing in the outdoor kitchen, finishing the lighting, and adding those last little details that take a project from incredible to holy cow, is that really a backyard?

Now, as long as Mother Nature stays in line. 😅

From rough field sketches ➡️ jaw-dropping 3D renderings ➡️ a full-blown backyard resort, watching this space come to life has been an absolute thrill.

This project challenged us on multiple fronts—and we loved every second of it. We’ve poured our passion into every detail, and we cannot wait to show South Georgia what’s possible when you stop thinking of your outside space as “just a backyard.”

A few fun facts that most folks would never guess:

• 600+ tons of fill brought in to sculpt the elevation and create that perfect natural flow
• 2,000+ linear feet of underground drainage — basically a hidden network of moving water
• 36+ tons of premium nursery mix filling those massive steel planters
• 5,000 square feet of premium artificial turf using three different specialized materials

From pencil on paper to this stunning reality — BOOM!

The full reveal is coming soon, complete with epic drone footage, timelapse magic, and ongoing coverage as this space settles in and continues to evolve.

Materials Matter. At Al Fresco, most elements of our designs call for very specific materials to achieve the impact, palettes/textures, and aesthetic our clients envision.

We take pride in sourcing 85% of our materials by volume right here in the South Georgia market. But when the vision demands something more unique, we don’t settle—we go find it.

The slate chips pictured above are a great example. We tracked down these chips direct from the quarry and trucked them in from the North GA/AL line because they delivered exactly the design and look our client wanted.

We don’t install whatever is easiest or most readily available locally just to keep things moving faster. Instead, we source exactly what the project needs to bring our clients’ dream outdoor spaces to life—even if it requires extra time, resources, and building new vendor relationships along the way.

A space built for growing kids and parents who want their home to become the gathering place for friends. We hear it more and more: “We know our kids and their friends are going to be somewhere as they grow up — we want our backyard to be the place they choose to be.”

A place that can easily shift gears — from a lively Friday afternoon happy hour for the parents to a more refined fall evening around the fire with a glass of wine and slow, easy conversation.

An intentional nod to the client’s hometown, layered subtly throughout the design. If you’re paying close attention, you’ll pick up on it. Everything you need is in the pictures.

This concept package is our standard starting point for a much more detailed set as the project progresses. We believe this approach is what sets us apart — every project redefines and raises the standard in our portfolio.

The end is in sight!

This is our final sneak peek before everything comes together. We’re deep in full landscape installation with just a couple hundred plants left to place. Next week we fire up the big one — installing the entire turf system and putting green!

Our designs are packed with texture, elevation changes, and strategic layering. Pictured here: the tallest Podocarpus plantings that beautifully frame and contain the new backyard, guiding the eye exactly where we want it. So many fun planting moments still to come!

Meet Al Fresco 
Hey y’all, I realized last week that a lot of you still don’t know who’s behind the scenes here — so let me properly introduce myself.

I’m Caleb Clugston, owner, lead designer, project manager, and chief hat-wearer at Al Fresco.

I wasn’t born in the South, but I sure fell hard for it. Raised on a farm in Pennsylvania, a few years spent in the Marine Corps, and over a decade in the corporate world running operations and designing massive distribution centers, automation systems, and robotics from coast to coast. 

At Al Fresco, we don’t just design. We build intentional legacy spaces — places where families grow stronger, memories are made, community gathers, and kids (and grandkids) will one day run around the same yard. Spaces that give you room to breathe, connect, and show up better for the people who matter the most.

This is exactly why we love the turnkey design-build approach — those full-circle moments that make it all worthwhile.

Just a few months ago, our clients shared their vision: a handful of olive trees across the property, including a multi-trunk specimen and several single-trunk trees to anchor an existing terrace. That dream stayed alive through every design revision and material selection, even though at the time we weren’t 100% sure how to pull it off.

Well before sunrise, we made the drive to central Florida to meet Luc at . From the moment we arrived, it was clear we were in the right place. Luc’s knowledge and passion are unmatched, and the trees? Absolutely spectacular.

We tagged some truly beautiful olives that will bring the entire vision to life and create the statement plantings our clients dreamed of.

Sometimes turning a rendering into reality takes a couple hundred mile round trip at dawn — and it’s worth every single mile.
