Ice dams form when heat escapes through your roof, melting snow that later refreezes at the edges. Over time, this buildup can lead to leaks, water damage, and expensive repairs.
If you notice ice forming, here’s what you can do:
• Safely remove excess snow from the roof edge after storms
• Keep gutters and downspouts clear
• Watch for leaks or water stains inside
• Avoid chipping ice yourself to prevent roof damage
• Use a roof rake from the ground if possible to reduce buildup
