Why Do HVAC Ducts or Diffusers "Sweat"?

Ever notice water droplets forming on diffusers or ducts? This common issue in HVAC systems happens due to condensation, and understanding the cause is key to preventing it.

Main Causes:

Low supply air temperature - diffuser surface drops below room dew point

High indoor humidity - metal surfaces collect moisture

Poor insulation - duct surface becomes too cold

Air leakage warm, humid air mixes with cold diffuser

Imbalance in supply & return air - results in abnormally low surface temperatures

Practical Solutions:

Maintain supply air at 12-14°C, avoid going below 10°C

Keep indoor humidity ≤ 55% RH

Ensure proper insulation + v***r barrier

Seal all air leakages around diffusers or ceiling plenums

Perform air balancing across the system

Use anti-sweat or plastic diffusers in humid areas
