Lawrence Fernandez started with a simple goal: to introduce and develop a sense of culture within the children living in his hometown of Barataria, Trinidad. Now, 17 years later, D’Collective is doing just that, enriching the lives of children all over St. Using various vehicles, D’Collective works towards improving the lives of the children in this area of Trinidad and Tobago. Different events, i
ncluding an annual Christmas Party and Inter-Scholar Calypso Contest, are used to encourage the cultural development of the children in the Malick, Barataria, Morvant, and San Juan areas as well as getting the children wholly involved in their rich Trinidadian culture. During the Carnival season, D’Collective, in connection with different primary schools in the area, produces a Kiddies Band that allows the children to become a part of the construction of the costumes they adorn on Carnival Saturday and Sunday as they parade through the streets of Port-of-Spain, San Juan, Arouca, and Tunapuna.
