“Reinterpreting Buddhist Cosmology through Contemporary Architecture.”

The design of the Multi-Purpose Auditorium is rooted in the principles of Buddhist cosmology, reinterpreting the traditional spatial hierarchy found in Thai temple architecture into a contemporary educational environment. Rather than replicating historical forms, the project translates their underlying philosophies into an architectural language that responds to the University’s vision and future development.
Inspired by the gable forms and rooflines of Lanna architecture, the building abstracts these traditional elements into clean geometries and contemporary expressions. This approach preserves the cultural identity of the place while creating a timeless architectural character that is both symbolic and functional.
The spatial sequence is carefully composed to guide visitors from public gathering spaces toward the central auditorium, reflecting a symbolic journey from the external world to a place of learning, contemplation, and collective experience. Flexible planning allows the building to accommodate academic conferences, ceremonial events, cultural performances, and large-scale university activities while supporting long-term adaptability.
At TDC Architects, we believe architecture should do more than provide shelter. It should embody the history, culture, and identity of its context while creating meaningful experiences for the people who use it.
This project is envisioned not merely as a building, but as a long-term investment in knowledge, culture, and community. The development of a university campus is a gradual process that extends beyond construction. It is the creation of a place where education, Buddhist philosophy, and the natural environment coexist—fostering both intellectual growth and inner well-being for future generations.
