When WOHA designed Oasia Hotel Downtown in 2011, the idea was simple but radical: a dense, high-rise tower did not have to choose between growth and nature. This is the heart of WOHA's Garden City Mega City thinking - buildings should not just take up space, they should give something back to the city and its ecosystem.

That idea has taken root, literally. The red aluminum mesh façade, framed by more than 20 species of creepers, is now a thriving vertical garden. It cools the building, softens the skyline, attracting birds, butterflies and insects in the middle of Singapore's Central Business District. With greenery that far exceeds the footprint of the land it stands on, Oasia Hotel Downtown shows that high-density living can support biodiversity rather than displace it.

A decade post-completion, we are happy to celebrate this milestone at the 2026 Council on Vertical Urbanism (CVU) Summit in London, in the 10-Year Award category.

This evening, as part of BRAC University’s silver jubilee celebrations, WOHA Co-Founder Wong Mun Summ delivered a public lecture, 'Form Intelligence: Towards a New and Regenerative Tropical Urbanism', exploring how architecture and urban design can respond to the challenges of rapid urbanization, climate change, and sustainability in tropical regions.

We were incredibly honoured to welcome Mr. President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to the media preview of the P*DA20: Power of Singapore Design exhibition. WOHA Director, Alina Yeo, shared the stories behind WOHA's featured projects - School of the Arts (SOTA) Singapore (P*DA winner 2011) and The Met in Bangkok (P*DA winner 2009). We are deeply grateful to have had 14 of our projects recognized by the President*s Design Award over the years.

P*DA20: Power of Design is a showcase presented by the DesignSingapore Council and Urban Redevelopment Authority to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the President*s Design Award.

WOHA's BRAC University in Dhaka, Bangladesh is one of four shortlisted projects vying for the world’s most prestigious award for architecture, the RIBA International Prize 2026.

Four outstanding projects in Bangladesh and Belgium have been shortlisted for the 2026 Prize, as we announce an expanded global programme for 2027-28.

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has revealed the shortlist of four projects located across Belgium and Bangladesh that are vying for the world’s most prestigious award for architecture, the RIBA International Prize 2026.

One of four shortlists, WOHA's BRAC University campus is built on a former landfill site in Dhaka, Bangladesh, transforms a neglected urban site into a vertical campus serving 20,000 students and public spaces, embedding the site into the local neighbourhood. The 15-storey building contains nine floors of teaching facilities topped with a publicly accessible park, creating a new design model for education in dense urban settings. Using passive cooling strategies, natural cross-ventilation and extensive landscaping, the campus focuses on increasing climate resilience, while creating spaces for learning, interaction and community use. Through its integration of sustainability, education and public life, BRAC University demonstrates how architecture can support both environmental resilience and wider urban regeneration.

The four projects are now in contention for the fifth RIBA International Prize, with the winner to be announced on 15 October 2026, alongside the recipient of the RIBA International Emerging Architect award.

22 students from the University of New South Wales' School of Built Environment were on a week-long study tour of Singapore, as part of a course led by WOHA's Founding Directors, Seidler Chairs in Architecture Mun Summ Wong and Richard Hassell.

The students spent time in Singapore studying key high-rise buildings, visiting architecture and urbanism institutions, and participating in a joint workshop on sustainable architecture with students from the National University of Singapore's Integrated Sustainable Design studio. Armed with this knowledge, they will now return to Sydney and develop a new masterplan for part of Singapore’s southern waterfront which aspires to achieve net zero carbon performance, high levels of amenity and future homes for tens of thousands of people – WOHA will be flying to Sydney for the final reviews at the end of term in December.

University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney students were in Singapore for a week-long design studio, led by WOHA’s Founding Director Wong Mun Summ. WOHA’s Founders are appointed Seidler Chairs in the practice of architecture at UNSW. The students were brought on guided site visits to WOHA’s projects - including the Punggol Digital District masterplanned and designed by WOHA - exploring cutting-edge tropical urbanism and smart-city integration. The immersive week culminated in a joint masterclass uniting students from the National University of Singapore (NUS) ISD studio and UNSW Sydney for collaborative critique and design innovation.
