We were interviewed by CNA last year, about digital locks. It's been quite a while, but we've decided to bring this back, seeing how digital locks are a popular query from our clients.
We agree that they're useful for people who lose their keys so frequently that mechanical locks don't make economical sense.
Or - for landlords who rent their properties out frequently, which make key management a hassle.
What we're concerned about is how these digital locks present issues for customers, long after the sales has been completed, particularly for those who switch back to mechanical locks.
๐จMost of these locks are of proprietary sizing, so if you want to change them back to a mechanical key lock next time, you may have issues doing so.
๐จ These locks - along with their apps - are also only supported for a limited period of time. What this means is that you may have to change to another digital lock model if yours is no longer supported.
Many thanks again to Natasha Ganesan for the interview, and for the detailed writeup! ๐

Locksmiths also highlighted the lack of customer support available for home owners who purchase off-the-shelf smart locks from e-commerce platforms.
