QUADRITALIA ENCLOSURE

Design flexibility matters when space and depth are critical ⚡

One of the key advantages of Quadritalia enclosures is the ability to connect two cubicles back-to-back, effectively doubling the usable depth without custom fabrication.

How it works:
Connect 2x 600 mm deep cubicles → 1200 mm total depth
Connect 2x 800 mm deep cubicles → 1600 mm total depth

This gives you more space for complex busbar arrangements, deeper components, and better cable management, while keeping a standard modular structure. Faster assembly, easier maintenance, and no compromise on IEC compliance.

Smart design = faster projects and lower cost on site.

⚡ Understanding Routine Tests in LV Panels — IR, HV, Functional & More
Before an LV panel is dispatched to site,
it must pass several important checks.
These checks are called:
Routine Tests
Defined under:
📘 IEC 61439
Routine testing ensures:
✅ safety
✅ wiring correctness
✅ insulation reliability
✅ operational performance
✅ manufacturing quality
Without proper testing:
❌ hidden faults may remain inside the panel
❌ failures may happen at site
❌ safety risk increases
What Are Routine Tests?
Routine tests are:
⚡ mandatory tests performed on every panel before dispatch.
Unlike type tests,
routine tests are performed:
✅ on each manufactured panel
Why Routine Testing Is Important
Routine testing helps identify:
⚠ loose connections
⚠ wrong wiring
⚠ insulation weakness
⚠ improper operation
⚠ manufacturing defects
before the panel reaches the customer.
1. Visual Inspection
First step of testing.
Engineers check:
✅ panel dimensions
✅ component mounting
✅ busbar supports
✅ labeling
✅ wiring quality
✅ ferruling
✅ gland plate
✅ earthing
This helps catch:
❌ physical mistakes
❌ missing hardware
❌ poor workmanship
2. IR Test (Insulation Resistance Test)
One of the most important electrical tests.
Purpose:
✅ check insulation health
Performed using:
⚡ Megger
Normally tested between:
phase to phase
phase to neutral
phase to earth
Healthy insulation means:
✅ high resistance value
Low IR value may indicate:
❌ moisture
❌ dust
❌ damaged insulation
❌ wiring fault
3. HV Test (High Voltage Test)
Also called:
⚡ Dielectric Test
Purpose:
✅ verify insulation can withstand high voltage stress
High voltage is applied for a short duration.
If insulation fails:
❌ flashover may occur
This test confirms:
✅ electrical insulation safety
4. Functional Test
This test checks:
⚡ actual operation of the panel
Engineers verify:
✅ breaker ON/OFF operation
✅ indication lamps
✅ push buttons
✅ interlocks
✅ relays
✅ contactor logic
✅ PLC signals (if applicable)
This ensures:
✔ panel works correctly in real operation
5. Continuity Test
Purpose:
✅ verify proper electrical continuity
Especially important for:
earthing circuits
control wiring
neutral continuity
Poor continuity may cause:
❌ unsafe operation
❌ protection failure
6. Torque Verification
Loose tightening is one of the biggest causes of:
🔥 overheating
Torque testing ensures:
✅ proper tightening of:
busbars
lugs
breaker terminals
Correct torque = better reliability.
7. Wiring Verification
Engineers check:
✅ wire numbering
✅ ferrules
✅ termination
✅ schematic matching
This avoids:
❌ wrong operation
❌ control faults
❌ commissioning problems

IR Value (Insulation Resistance) of Insulator and Conductor
Definition of IR Value
IR (Insulation Resistance) is the resistance offered by an insulating material against leakage current flow between conductor and earth or between two conductors.

> It is measured in:
• Mega Ohm (MΩ)
• Giga Ohm (GΩ) for very high insulation systems.

> Measurement is generally done by:
• Megger / Insulation Resistance Tester

1. IR Value of Insulator
Definition
The IR value of an insulator indicates how effectively the insulator prevents leakage current from flowing from the live conductor to earth or supporting structure.

> Purpose
• To check insulation health
• Detect moisture, dust, cracks, contamination
• Prevent flashover and leakage current
• Ensure system reliability

> Common Types Tested
• Porcelain insulator
• Polymer insulator
• Glass insulator
• Post insulator
• Disc insulator
• CT/PT insulator bushings

> Typical IR Value Range

Voltage Level Acceptable IR Value
LT System Above 100 MΩ
11 kV Above 1 GΩ
33 kV and above Several GΩ

• Higher IR value means better insulation condition.

> Factors Affecting Insulator IR
• Moisture
• Dust and pollution
• Salt contamination
• Cracks in insulator
• Aging
• Temperature
• Surface tracking

> Test Method
1. Isolate equipment from supply.
2. Clean insulator surface.
3. Connect Megger:
✓ One lead to conductor side
✓ Other lead to earth/body
4. Apply test voltage:
✓ 500 V / 1 kV / 5 kV Megger depending on
system voltage
5. Record IR value after 1 minute.

> Interpretation

IR Value Condition Meaning
Very High Healthy insulation
Low Moisture or contamination
Very Low Possible insulation failure

2. IR Value of Conductor
> Definition
The IR value of a conductor represents the insulation resistance between the conductor and earth or between conductors through insulating medium.

The conductor itself is conductive, so IR testing mainly checks:
• Cable insulation
• Conductor insulation covering
• Leakage path to earth

> Purpose
• Detect insulation breakdown
• Prevent short circuit
• Prevent earth fault
• Verify cable health before energization

> Types of Conductors Tested
• Power cable conductor
• Overhead covered conductor
• Underground cable
• Motor winding conductor
• Transformer winding conductor

> Typical IR Value
Equipment Minimum IR Value
LT Cable Above 1 MΩ
HT Cable Above 100 MΩ
Motor winding 1 MΩ per kV + 1 MΩ
Transformer winding Several hundred MΩ to GΩ

> Test Voltage Used
System Voltage Megger Voltage
230/415 V 500 V
11 kV 2.5 kV
33 kV and above 5 kV

> Factors Affecting Conductor IR
• Moisture ingress
• Insulation aging
• Mechanical damage
• Excess heating
• Dirt accumulation
• Chemical contamination

> Conductor IR Test Procedure
1. Disconnect power supply.
2. Short all phases together if required.
3. Connect Megger:
✓ One terminal to conductor
✓ Other terminal to earth
5. Apply test voltage.
6. Measure resistance after stabilization.

> Importance of IR Testing
• Improves system safety
• Reduces breakdown chances
• Prevents electrical accidents
• Helps predictive maintenance
• Ensures reliable operation

> Important Notes
• Higher IR value is always preferable.
• IR decreases with temperature rise.
• Wet weather reduces insulator IR.
• Always discharge equipment after Megger testing.
• Never perform IR test on live equipment.

> Simple Formula Concept
Leakage current relation:
Where: R = V/I
R = Insulation Resistance
V = Applied Voltage
I = Leakage Current

Higher resistance means lower leakage current and better insulation quality.
