"PEDROALVERNAZ, arquitecto" é um escritório de arquitectura localizado na ilha de São Miguel, Açores Our work ranges from large to small projects.

PEDROALVERNAZ architect is an architectural practice based in São Miguel Island, Azores. We focus mostly on residential architecture and interior design. Besides new buildings works such as housing, we are particulary interested in dealing with heritage, local materiais and artisans that care for the preservation of the patrimonial identity. We approach a convergent architecture which may develop an enriching dialogue between new interventions and respective environments. The Azores, as an outermost region, presupposes a slower change time, adapted to a form of late modernity located in certain areas of the national territory. Nevertheless, the shapes and lines that make up the landscape, that hide or build the different ‘places’, where the ‘genius loci’, the spirit of the place, still manifests, prevailing over time, immutable. In these island, the emerging issue is mainly related to the new forms of occupation of the territory and, more particularly, from the architect's point of view, in the way in which develop strategies that explore the disciplinary crossings between landscape, architecture and people. Our work its mainly based in the interpretation of people´s perceptions, sense of place and identity. Through a systemic and critical approach with particular emphasis on the modelling of space, light and materials, we strive to achieve a guiding thread between architecture and the place.
