Lyari Expressway Educational Visit –Mehran University of Engineering and Technology
Students and faculty members from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro visited the Lyari Expressway as part of an educational field trip. The visit was organized to provide practical exposure to large-scale infrastructure and civil engineering projects.
The delegation was warmly welcomed by officials from the National Highway Authority (NHA), including Duty Director Mr. Irfan Sheikh, Additional Director Mr. Asad, and other senior officers. Representatives from H M Enterprises, including CEO Mr. Haider Mirani and Mr. Zaid Nasir Khan, also participated in the visit.
The visit began from Sohrab Goth (Zero Point), where the NHA team briefed the visitors on the background of the Lyari Expressway project—its planning, construction phases, and the various challenges faced during ex*****on. The officials explained the civil engineering techniques and expertise that were applied throughout the project, including problem-solving strategies for the complex urban environment in Karachi.
After the on-site briefing, the group proceeded to the NHA Karachi Office, where an orientation session was held. During this session, detailed presentations were given on the operation, maintenance, and management of the expressway network. Refreshments were also arranged for all the visiting students and teachers.
The event concluded with a guided tour of the NHA office facilities, offering students valuable insights into the working environment of professional highway management and development.
This visit served as an enriching experience for MUET students, bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world engineering practice, and highlighting the role of NHA and partner companies like H M Enterprises in the nation’s infrastructure development.
