Did you know that this month celebrates the “Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness”? An art exhibition dedicated for our rich maritime heritage and marine environment. Thank you to Solanda-Mercury, Beacon Expo and The Maritme League for making this event possible. 🐟 🐠🚢⚓️🛥️

After visiting these paintings in Manila, I came home and parked my car. Just then, this dog gently pulled at my pants, looking at me with weary, pleading eyes as if asking for help.

She seemed lost and didn’t know how to find her way back to her owners. Sino ba owner mo? 🫩

I never expected that NUNELUCIO ALVARADO would be chosen as a National Artist for Visual Arts this year. With so many well-known names being considered, his recognition is a beautiful reminder that an artist’s legacy is not measured by popularity or social media visibility alone.

It takes decades of dedication, mastery, perseverance, and genuine commitment to one’s craft and country to earn a recognition of this magnitude.

I am also grateful to Ms. Karen Go for giving me the opportunity to restore four of his artworks, these are survivors of Typhoon Yolanda from Tacloban and brought to Pasay. Thankfully, they were spared from major water damage. What moved me most was seeing the genuine love of the owners and commitment to preserving these works.

As a restorer, I’m reminded that preserving art is also preserving history. Congratulations, Nunelucio Alvarado! May your recognition remind us that true artistic legacy is built over time and continues to endure beyond the noise of the present. 🇵🇭🎨
