One of our favorite things to do sa trabaho namin is material finishes selection. At this stage, actual samples matter. A lot.

Finishes do more than just decorate; their tactile nature directly evokes distinct moods that flat images fail to communicate . . . warm wood grounds a room, cool stone calms it, and touch is required to see which feeling fits your vision.

The design concept incorporates the symbolism of the “manto” (cloak), which is of great significance in the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and contemporary Filipino architecture represented by the “tukod”, among others.

We are truly humbled and honored to have been entrusted the responsibility of designing a physical home that will serve its growing faithful community for generations to come. Thank you for this once-in-a-lifetime privilege🙏🏻.

One of the things that make us happy in the morning: this (see photo) —- at this particular time as we start the day, when the sun casts its magic spell on our glass door and creates this shadow onto this laminated wall surface.

We have been asked many times why we chose our name, UMBRA . . . this morning scenario illustrates our answer.

UMBRA is actually Latin for “shadow”. In architecture, shades and shadows are crucial for revealing form, depth, texture, visual and spatial experience. Relatively simple surfaces and finishes, when aptly placed, become more interesting once you allow shades and shadows to work their magic on them. 😉
