The nation honors National Artist Leandro Locsin on his 98th Birth Anniversary.
Leandro V. Locsin profoundly reshaped the urban landscape with his distinctive architectural approach, which captures the spirit of Philippine art and culture. He asserts that true Philippine architecture arises from the merging of two significant cultural streams: the oriental and the occidental, leading to a novel creation marked by deep harmony. This fusion serves as the bedrock of all his works, with his concrete edifices reflecting his remarkable mastery of space and proportion.
Every structure crafted by Locsin stands as a unique masterpiece, unmistakably his, showcasing recurring motifs of floating forms and the dynamic balance between lightness and weight, as well as buoyancy and solidity in his key projects. From 1955 to 1994, Locsin realized 75 residential designs and 88 additional buildings, which encompass 11 churches and chapels, 23 public facilities, 48 commercial venues, six major hotels, and an airport terminal.
