MAYOR GASATAYA: BACOLOD WON'T ACCEPT ₱300-MILLION TIEZA PROJECTS UNTIL FULLY FINISHED AND FUNCTIONAL

BACOLOD CITY — Mayor Greg Gasataya has reaffirmed Bacolod City’s firm position: the ₱300-million TIEZA-funded tourism infrastructure projects will not be formally accepted until every component is fully completed, properly built, and working as intended.

“We want everything done, everything finished — ensuring no fountain leaks and all lights are operational,” the mayor said. “We will not accept this if it is incomplete or substandard.” This standard applies equally to both the Bacolod Public Plaza and the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) redevelopment.

The initiative splits into two parts: ₱220 million for the BCGC grounds and a modern synchronized fountain system, and ₱80 million for the Public Plaza — covering four fountains, upgraded lighting, drainage, landscaping, and restrooms. Construction began in early 2025 with an original target completion of September 2026.

The project faced delays and oversights, including a critical omission of necessary power supply upgrades for the new fountains — an issue TIEZA has since addressed.

While the city continues its own parallel maintenance and cleanup efforts, formal acceptance will remain withheld until all works meet full specifications, operate reliably, and are free of defects.
