Week 4 of my painting course! 🎨

My lovely teacher, Kasia Hebda Studio - Artist | Designer | Art Restorer encouraged me to continue working on last week's painting, even though it wasn't my favourite. And while I don't think it will be going down as my favourite painting of all time 😂 I can definitely see how much it improved from where I left it last week.

It was actually a really good challenge to keep working on something I wasn't particularly happy with instead of putting it aside and starting something new.

Sometimes it's easy to only want to work on the things that are going well, but pushing through the parts I find difficult is probably where some of the biggest learning happens.

I'm really enjoying being challenged and pushed outside my comfort zone during this course and I know it's going to help me continue developing my skills.

I can't wait to keep learning and start applying what I'm discovering to my own paintings! ✨

Te Atamira Whakatipu recently held the opening night for The Mountain Remembers, an exhibition presented by the Queenstown Arts Society and I'm so proud and excited to be one of the featured artists ✨

It was such a pleasure attending the opening night, seeing all the incredible artwork, and meeting so many talented artists.

I feel really lucky to be part of such a welcoming and inspiring art community here in Queenstown. Every opportunity like this makes me even more excited to continue exhibiting, meet new people, and see where this creative journey takes me.

If you get the chance, go and check it out! There are so many beautiful and talented works on display 🤍

Week 3 of my painting course! 🎨

This one was definitely a challenge!

We had a few more colours to work with this week, but I just couldn't seem to mix them the way I wanted. I didn't love how the painting started, I wasn't loving how it developed, and honestly... I wasn't even completely happy with the final result.

But despite feeling a little frustrated during the class, I could also feel my skills being stretched in a really positive way.

Kasia Hebda Studio - Artist | Designer | Art Restorer brought such a fun and encouraging energy to a challenging class, with lots of helpful analogies and reminders that we're not meant to love every painting we create. Sometimes the paintings we struggle with are the ones we learn the most from.

This class highlighted once again that I need to keep working on contrast and depth, and I'm actually really excited to keep developing those skills and see how they influence my future paintings.

Not every painting has to be a favourite. Sometimes it's enough to learn from it and keep going 🤍

This week I attended my second art class with Kasia Hebda Studio - Artist | Designer | Art Restorer 🎨

A completely different landscape, with new challenges, lots of learning, and plenty of fun!

I loved how we started with such a bright background and then let some of that colour shine through as we built up the landscape. It created such a different effect from how I usually approach my paintings.

I'm really enjoying trying new things, experimenting with different techniques, and continuing to learn. I can't wait to see what we tackle next! ✨

I'm so excited to share that I started an acrylic landscape painting course with Kasia Hebda Studio - Artist | Designer | Art Restorer this week! 🎨

I've done quite a few art workshops over the past year, but this is the first time I've had the opportunity to focus specifically on acrylic landscapes here in Queenstown. While I've loved experimenting with different mediums and subjects, it feels really special to dive deeper into the style of painting I enjoy most.

We had our first class on Tuesday, and I absolutely loved it. As always, Kasia was an awesome teacher encouraging us, guiding us, and giving us the space to discover things for ourselves.

One of the biggest focuses of the class was exploring value and tone using just three colours. It quickly became clear that this is an area I can improve! Kasia often encouraged me to push the contrast further by lightening the sky and lake and darkening the foreground mountains.

It made me realise that I tend to play it quite safe with value in my own paintings. I usually explore lots of different colours, but not always the full range a single colour can create. It was such a valuable lesson and has already given me ideas that I'm excited to bring into my own work.

I love the insight I gained from this class and I'm really looking forward to seeing how these classes will influence my future paintings. 🤍

Life has been a little crazy lately, so I haven't had much chance to paint.

I was lucky enough to spend the weekend playing tourist in New Zealand with a friend who came to visit, and it reminded me just how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful place.

There was so much incredible scenery and endless inspiration around every corner. Now I'm feeling excited to get back into it and turn some of those memories into paintings.

Hopefully I'll get the chance to pick up the paintbrush again soon 🥰

I'll be honest... this week has been a tough one. 😅

For those who don't know, I work full-time, study a Bachelor's degree part-time and fit my art around everything else whenever I can.

This week, I had a final assignment worth 50% due on Thursday which was a 10 min video presentation. Ewwwww 🤮

I also had to get everything ready for my first Remarkables Market on Saturday.

After submitting my assignment, it was straight into market prep, shopping for the last few things, packing my prints, and getting everything organised. My partner was hoping to join me, but unfortunately he's been unwell this week, so I'll be tackling my first Remarkables Market solo.

And to make things even more interesting... the forecast is looking pretty wet! 😂

But that's all part of the adventure. Every market, every challenge, and every little milestone is helping me grow, and I'm excited to see what tomorrow brings.

If you're around, I'd absolutely love for you to come and say hi! I'll be in the Red Barn at the Remarkables Market, and seeing a few friendly faces would honestly mean the world 🤍
