Behind the beautiful landscapes of Central Otago is a huge amount of work keeping the land productive, accessible, and safe.

We’re proud to help local farmers by clearing thistles, rank grass, and overgrown vegetation from paddocks, fence lines, and stock routes. This work improves livestock movement, reduces fire risk during the dry months, and helps prevent thistles becoming tangled in sheep’s wool.

By keeping these areas maintained, stock can graze more effectively and farmers can make better use of their land.

It’s not always the most visible work, but it’s an important part of supporting our local rural community.

A simple, naturalistic planting design focused on texture, structure, and long-term growth.

This garden was established using a combination of ornamental grasses and architectural plants, carefully spaced to allow each specimen room to develop and reach its full potential. The planting layout was designed to create movement through the landscape while maintaining a clean and contemporary appearance.

To support healthy establishment, a drip irrigation system was installed throughout the planting area, delivering water directly to the root zone and promoting efficient water use.

An organic w**d mat was installed across the entire garden bed to help suppress w**d growth, retain soil moisture, reduce maintenance requirements, and protect the soil while the plants established.

Trees often look healthier and grow stronger when the grass is cleared away from around the trunk. Here’s why:

1. Less Competition for Water and Nutrients
Grass is surprisingly competitive. It can take a large share of the water and nutrients that young and established trees need to thrive, especially during dry periods.

2. Protects the Trunk from Damage
Mowers and line trimmers are one of the biggest causes of accidental tree damage. Creating a grass-free ring around the base helps prevent wounds that can lead to disease, rot, and pest problems.

3. Better Growth and Tree Health
A mulched area around the base of the tree helps retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and improve overall growing conditions. Healthier roots = healthier trees.

We’re looking for someone experienced in horticulture and garden maintenance to join the team at Pinewood Garden Company.

You’ve probably seen us around waving as we drive between properties. We work on some of Queenstown’s best residential and commercial gardens, and genuinely enjoy what we do.

The role includes:

Garden maintenance

Hedge trimming

Ride-on mowing

Brushcutting

Planting work

Spraying

Soft landscaping

Working independently and as part of a team

What we offer:
✅ Paid travel time (base to base)

✅ Equal split of client tips
