☀️ Making Aotearoa home: a lifetime of learning, love and connection with Mervyn's journey.

What can a lifetime in Aotearoa teach us about joy, humility, love and belonging?

In today's episode of Making Yourself at Home in Aotearoa on ARTFM, we sit down with Mervyn from England, alongside co-hosts Clara, Amélie and Gaëlle, for a kōrero about the life lessons he has gathered through decades of travel, teaching, curiosity and connection.

From the people we meet to the differences that enrich us, Mervyn reminds us that there is always more to learn, that helping one another matters, and that a sense of home grows and deepens over a lifetime.

💛 A beautiful conversation about embracing life, staying open-minded and finding our place in a new country, whether we've just arrived or have called it home for decades.

📍🎨 The Power of diversity and art in THE event on the 17 october, in New Plymouth.

In this episode of At home, in Aotearoa on ARTFM, our host That's me Alina and co-host Gaelle are joined by Bronwyn and Emily, on a chat about the Performing Arts Collective evening in New Plymouth.

On this episode, they explore the richness that emerges from diversity across cultures, languages, nationalities, and generations. Because diversity is not simply something we live alongside: it is something we have to celebrate, share, and bring to life.

On 17 October 2026, WorldBeat will offer a space for every artistic soul to unfold, express, connect and be inspired. An evening celebrating the power of artistic expression where everyone can bring their own energy, story and creativity — whether through creating, performing, sharing, or simply allowing themselves to be moved by someone else's expression.

📍 Plymouth International Hotel,
220 Courtenay Street, New Plymouth
🕕 Doors open from 6PM.

Throughout this conversation, Bronwyn, Emily, Alina and Gaëlle return to something deeply human: our need to express, to feel, to share and to inspire one another.

Art can cross the boundaries that words sometimes cannot. It can connect people who come from different places, different generations and different worlds — reminding us that beneath our differences, we all have emotions, stories and creative impulses waiting to be expressed and to shine.

So, what happens when we give ourselves permission to let those impulses live? Perhaps we create a little more connection. Perhaps we understand each other a little better.

Perhaps, together, we make Aotearoa feel a little more like home.

🎧 Tune in, get inspired, and maybe let your own artistic soul speak!

If this conversation sparks something in you, this event might just be the place to let it come alive. So, see you there! ☀️

In this last episode of Making Yourself at Home in Aotearoa Radio, our host Alina Kibbel and our co-hosts ClaRa Del BosQue and Gaelle Terral sits down to talk about one of the most challenging — and often unspoken — parts of building a new life abroad: loneliness.

How to deal with loneliness mainly when you arrive in a new country?

Between relationships, marriage, childrens, single life, having or not having family nearby, and leaving long-standing friendships behind, loneliness can take many different forms.

In this episode, you'll be able to reconnect with them to the quiet moments, the feeling of suddenly having no familiar points of reference, discovering unfamiliar social codes, missing people, places and everyday habits, building meaningful friendships and a sense of achievement from scratch, learning the difference between being alone and actually feeling lonely.

Together, they talk about friendships, connections, communities, putting yourself out there, facing rejection and learning to feel comfortable with yourself while creating a new life far from your first home.

Because perhaps loneliness isn't only something to overcome.

Perhaps it can also be part of the journey towards belonging — between meeting, loving, sharing, growing… and sometimes simply learning to be with yourself and feel everything. ☀️

Meet Gaelle Terral from France—our wonderful guest on Making Yourself at Home! 🎙️✨

Thank you Alina (That's me) from Romania and Amna from Pakistan for co-hosting!

Gaëlle arrived in Aotearoa only five weeks ago, taking her biggest leap yet: leaving Europe and following her dreams to New Zealand, with « le soleil dans la tête »—sunshine in her mind. ☀️

Last year, she celebrated turning 30 by making one of her first big dreams come true—travelling solo to Italy. This year, her curiosity and courage brought her all the way to Aotearoa.

Gaëlle explores the world through human connections, shared experiences, deep conversations and simple moments filled with joy, authenticity, spontaneity, silence and smiles. 🌿

She is passionate about cultures, foreign languages and art in all its forms—especially painting, writing, dancing, music and photography. She believes in humanity, the strength of femininity, and the courage to embrace all our emotions, including the deepest ones.

Gaëlle is at the beginning of a new chapter—one guided by her dreams, a deeper connection with who she truly is, and what she hopes to leave in the hearts of the people she meets. 💛

In this episode, Alina (That's me) from Romania and ClaRa Del BosQue from Spain share their personal journeys of home, belonging and living far from the countries where they grew up - .

Clara talks about travelling home from Wellington to New Plymouth and the special feeling she gets when Mount Taranaki comes into view—that moment when her heart says, “I’m home.” ❤️

Alina is also preparing to return to Romania, where she will reconnect with her mum, family and roots. In October, she will also be part of two meaningful retreats in Slovenia and Bucharest, exploring connection, authenticity and coming home to ourselves.

Together, they reflect on what it means to move to another country and create a new life. New Zealand feels like home, but Romania will always be home for Alina, just as Spain remains home for Clara. Maybe home doesn’t have to be only one place—it can live in different countries, relationships, memories and parts of ourselves. 🌍
