Today we're pleased to share that Cherie will be taking on a new role as South Island Area Manager for Tāmata Hauhā.
Over the past several years, Cherie has been instrumental in helping establish our presence on the Chatham Islands. Through her dedication, she has built strong relationships with landowners, imi/iwi and the wider community, and has been a passionate advocate for new opportunities that support both the environment and the local economy. We are incredibly grateful for everything she has contributed.
As Tāmata Hauhā continues to grow across Aotearoa, this new role will see Cherie leading the development of our South Island activities while continuing to support broader commercial relationships and opportunities that benefit the regions we work alongside.
For our Chatham Islands partners and future partners, we want to reassure you that our commitment to the islands remains as strong as ever.
Day-to-day operations on the ground will carry on as usual. We continue to maintain a dedicated presence based on the Chatham Islands with Duane, ensuring local, on-the-ground support for operational matters, while our mainland forestry management team will undertake regularised visits to work alongside landowners, monitor forest performance, and provide specialist technical oversight.
This approach reflects the next stage of Tāmata Hauhā's growth, combining strong local relationships with the expertise of a wider national team to ensure our projects continue to deliver lasting environmental and commercial outcomes.
Looking ahead, we're particularly excited about the next phase of our work on the islands. Cherie has been a strong champion of our agroforestry programme—an approach that integrates farming with carefully designed tree planting to deliver both productive farmland and long-term environmental benefits. As these projects continue to develop, we look forward to sharing more information and creating additional opportunities for local employment and contracting as we expand our on-island needs for supporting these forests.
The Chatham Islands remain a key part of Tāmata Hauhā's future, and we are committed to continuing to invest in the people, partnerships and projects that make this work possible.
Please join us in congratulating Cherie on this exciting new chapter. We know she will continue to make a significant contribution to Tāmata Hauhā and to the communities we proudly work alongside.
