This week we had fun playing a French wild animals Bingo game. 😊
Two of my preschool tamariki have a parent whose homeland is France. 😊
Learning about the animals from our local land is linking to Mana whenua. 🥰

Last Friday, I decided not to plan a program or activities for the day as I recognised my Preschool tamariki were rather tired. I call it "Friday-itis". 🙃
What came out of that just blew me away! 🤩

The tamariki decided to complete a large foam Safari and rain forest animal puzzle. We have been learning about Mana Whenua together, one of my tamariki said "I think the animals come from Kenya 🇰🇪 where my mum comes from!". 🤩
So, we decided to look up what animals live in the wild in 🇰🇪 Kenya, we decided to make a matching animal game. 🤩
After replacing my laminater which decided not to work, my preschool tamariki learned how to laminate with supervision and guidance.
Next, they explored their creations, learning about Header, footer and sides of their matching game at the same time. 🤩

The conversation flowed to "what wild animals live in 🇫🇷 France where my dad comes from"?
Keep an eye out for the resources created from the curiosity and enquiry. 🤩

I love it when my preschool tamariki feel they can led the research and learning.
They also asked for images of the Kiwi because it is native to 🇳🇿 Aotearoa New Zealand
and wild animals from Kenya 🇰🇪 to colour.
The knowledge I am learning from my preschool tamariki alongside their curiosity and enquiry is massive! 🤩

On Monday we had an outing to the beach, our Christchurch City Council nature programme Educator came to guide us in knowing what creatures live in our oceans and at the beach. 🐧🐚
We learned about what rubbish is found at the beach and how our native creatures are affected by rubbish left on our shorelines. 🐬🦀

Learning about animals native to the countries we come from and how to look after our lands and native creatures is a part of our EFS and Mana Whenua curriculum programne. 🐟🐙
Our children are lapping up the opportunities to embrace our Mana Whenua, and they are curious to enquire about the links and connections they are making. 🫍🦐

We have spaces, funding applies, PM me for more details. 🕊🦭

Today, we had so much fun visiting Styx Mill Conservation Reserve. 🤩
We learnt about our local mana whenua, the creatures that live there and we made a new friend with Shelly the Paradise Sheldon female duck. 🥰
We saw Pukeko, black Swans, and ducklings. 😍

This is one of the ways we learn and explore our curriculum and local land through fun exploration. 🤩

The voices of our tamariki are encouraged to be shared and heard. 🥰🧒👧
My tamariki noticed the sounds had changed in their favourite sounds resources. Together we learned how to resolve challenges by replacing batteries this time. 🤩
Next time, it could be a different strategy used to resolve the challenge. Whatever it is we work together as team to create shared opportunities and learning experiences. 😍🧒👧👶👩‍🦳

At our Janine's Home-base Service through Home Grown Kids: Canterbury/Timaru Home Based Childcare we have started exploring our mana whenua and education for Sustainability to to become Kaitiakitanga guardians of our environment.

To achieve this we have learnt about the living creatures and plants in our natural environment and how to recycle to care for our environments.
We have visited the soft plastics recycling bin to drop of our soft plastics, supported our produce and naturally growing plants, read books. We have watched videos about hector dolphins and recycling, explored matching games, made natural art, and coloured images about our land and environments.
