Situated above the Otematata village on a hillside mostly planted in pines is the stylish residential home. The owners, engaged architectural designer, Darren O’Neil, to design a home that would meet the challenges of the steeply sloping site. The result is an impressive and yet understated single level dwelling, featuring an expansive open plan living, dining and kitchen area that opens out onto a timber deck and thoughtfully landscaped outdoor living, embracing the views.

Many people agree that Castle Hill is a treasure of Canterbury. Just over an hour’s drive from Christchurch, this golden tussocky land is scattered with smooth limestone boulders. Close by is the mountain village of Castle Hill, with a growing population of holiday homes.

Inspiration for the 638 square metre section started with their love for Canada. They wanted to create a “smart cabin” that illustrates their love of family, love of the outdoors and something that takes them back to living in Canada.

This magnificent home replaces the owner’s previous house lost in the Port Hills fire, perched in the Port Hills above Christchurch. It commands a panoramic outlook over the city from the Southern Alps up to the Kaikoura ranges.

2021 Canterbury Architecture Award, Registered Master Builders House of the Year 2021 Gold Award and Registered Master Builders House of the Year Regional 2021 Lifestyle Award - Kitchen recipient, this stunning modernist home has been designed and meticulously detailed for an architect’s own family. Set on a long north-south orientated site in Merivale, the site is surrounded by an established garden and an incredible backdrop of trees in Hagley Park.

Situated above Christchurch city on the hillside, emerging from the rough terrain is this architectural treasure, affectionally known as SkyFort. The brief from the owner was a building styled on a military bunker, with clean lines and a strong presence and the end result speaks for itself.

At only 80m2 total floor area, the design and floor plan has been extremely well thought out. A large two story high window captures 180 degree views of the city, bathing the house in sun and stunning views.

Congratulations 🙌

I’m incredibly honoured to share that I have been made a Fellow of the National Kitchen and Bathroom Association.

The NKBA New Zealand has been a significant part of my career journey, and I’ve been fortunate to contribute to the association in many ways, including as a Board member, President, Awards judge and Mentor. Along the way, I’ve also had the privilege of receiving three Designer of the Year titles, multiple Supreme and regional Awards, as well as international accolades that have provided opportunities to showcase New Zealand design on the world stage.

My love of design began when I was very young, sitting beside my mum in her graphic design studio, drawing and playing with designs and Letraset. That early fascination with creativity and design grew into a career that, even after all these years, I still feel incredibly blessed to have.

To have my contribution to the industry recognised by my peers is a huge honour and a very special moment in my career. I’m incredibly proud to receive this Fellowship and deeply grateful to the many people who have been part of the journey: my talented team, our wonderful clients, and the architects, manufacturers, suppliers and trades we collaborate with to bring our projects to life.

Thank you, NKBA.

This was a home inspired by family and their values. A beautiful home built in the heart of Merivale where family of all ages and generations could gather and enjoy everything this home has to offer.

‘An entertainers dream’ – is the best way to describe this home and it’s not hard to understand why as soon as you arrive. A built in BBQ with Neolith bench rests under the louvre and means cooking outdoors with a cold b**r or w**e is a breeze. The pool beyond this space is the jewel in the crown and finishes this outdoor space perfectly. Surrounded by a Corten raised planter, granite pavers and Forte decking this area really is a stand-out.

An extensive renovation in rural Canterbury was a collective effort by long-time collaborators, beautifully brought to fruition by Gregg Architectural Builders. This extensive renovation that saw a neglected brick 1980s house transformed into a modern farmstead.
