Trees, Trees and more Trees :)

Dad and I spent a week up in Rotorua at the start of May. We had been pruning, limbing and pulling Redwood trees out for a client.
While we were up there a team from Bioeconomy Science Institute(BSI) flew a drone over the forest to scan the trees with LiDAR as part of their project.

It has been really good being able to do this work for clients and also seeing what others are doing in the industry.

I spent a few days in Taumarunui at the end of April, up there I had been pruning cypress trees up to 6 metres. The plot is a part of a hybrid trial assessment to improve the seed selection on trees that can survive canker disease.

Mid April I spent a week in the Waikato for the 2026 NZFFA conference.
We spent the week travelling around looking at nurseries, sawmills and other people’s native tree blocks.

It was good getting to learn about their own struggles and successes of their operations and how current world events are affecting their business.

One of the days we spent looking at a clients Totora and cypress trees that I had pruned a year earlier! It was awesome seeing how impressed people were with the care taken on the pruning.

Went down south Around Clinton area over the last couple weeks and helped clean up a shelterbelt a farmer wanted out. Some nice decent Macrocarpa in the shelterbelt. Thanks Murray Earthworks for giving me the call up to come give him a hand with felling and limbing the trees.
