☀️ Something we've been thinking about since getting back from the SEANZ conference last week.

There's been a huge push lately around SEANZ accreditation and Solassure certification and we think that's a good thing. More accountability in the solar industry is something we've always wanted to see.

But here's what's been sitting with us all.

Right now, one of the biggest drivers getting businesses accredited is finance access. Major NZ banks (Westpac, ANZ, ASB, BNZ) won't release green loan funds unless your installer is SEANZ certified. That's a powerful incentive. And it's bringing more companies into the fold.

The question we keep coming back to is this: if the main reason a company gets accredited is to unlock a lending pathway, what is that certification actually protecting for you as the homeowner?

Because accreditation was never supposed to be a key that opens a finance product. It's supposed to tell you that the company going on your roof for the next 25 to 30 years actually gives a damn. That they stay informed. That they show up. That they're across what's happening in an industry moving at serious pace right now.

When we were at conference last week, only one other Marlborough company was in the room. One. In an industry where accreditation is growing fast locally, that's a gap worth noticing.

So if you're getting solar quotes, ask your installer when they last attended industry training. Ask them what's changed in solar technology in the last 12 months. Ask them who they call when something goes wrong three years down the track. The answers will tell you a lot more than a badge on a website will.

We're proud to be Solassure certified and SEANZ members. But we're prouder of what sits behind it. 💪

Why Solassure Certification is important to you.

When you're spending $10,000 to $50,000 + on a solar system, you're not just buying panels and an inverter. You're buying a 25 to 30 year relationship with the company who put them on your roof. And in an industry where anyone can hand you a quote, that distinction matters a lot.

Goodyer Solar is a Solassure Certified Installer and we want to tell you exactly what that means, because it's not a badge you can just buy.

So what is Solassure?

Solassure is New Zealand's solar and energy storage quality mark, built and powered by the Sustainable Energy Association of NZ (SEANZ). It's designed to help homeowners choose the right solar provider with confidence. The certification covers six areas that actually matter when things need to go right or when they go wrong.
Technical quality. Sales and ethics. Customer service. Warranty expectations. Local support. Long-term guidance.

Certification isn't a one-off. It's reviewed every year. That means we don't just meet the standard once and forget about it, we have to keep earning it. If we stop meeting the mark, we lose it. It's that simple.

What does it actually mean for you as a homeowner?

It means transparent pricing, clear performance expectations, and absolutely no hidden surprises. It means if something goes wrong with workmanship, with a warranty claim, with how the system was designed, there's a clear accountability pathway. It means the company putting its name on your quote is being held to a standard, not just telling you what you want to hear.

It also means your quote is formatted correctly for bank green loan drawdown because major NZ banks require your installer to be SEANZ-certified before they'll release funds. No certification, no green loan. It's that straightforward.

How do you spot a certified installer?

You can find the Solassure mark on certified installers' websites, vehicles, quotes, signage and business cards. Every certified installer in New Zealand is listed in the Solassure directory. If a company displays the mark and is not listed, they are not certified.

So if you're comparing quotes and one company has the mark and another doesn't, that's not a minor detail. That's the difference between an installer who's been independently assessed against NZ's highest solar standards, and one who hasn't.

We're proud to be certified. Not because it's good for marketing, but because it reflects the way we've always operated, honest advice, quality products, and we're here for the long run in Marlborough.

SEANZ released this chart recently and we think every homeowner should see it.

NZ average retail electricity prices have gone from 27 cents per kWh in 2013 to over 40 cents today. That's nearly a 50% increase in just 13 years. And if you look at the right hand side of that graph, it's not a gradual climb anymore. It's a sharp shock. Prices surged hard in late 2024 and they haven't come back down.

Here's the thing that puts it in perspective for a typical Marlborough household. If you're using around 8,000 kWh a year (which is pretty average for a family home) that price shift from 27c to 40c+ has added somewhere between $1,000 and $1,100 to your annual power bill compared to 2013. Every year. Just quietly chipping away.

And the forecasts don't suggest it gets cheaper. Network costs are rising, infrastructure needs replacing, and demand is increasing as more people switch to EVs and heat pumps in their electrification journey.

The payback period on a well-designed solar system in Marlborough right now sits at around 6 to 8 years depending on your usage and system size.

If this graph has made you think, even a little it's probably worth having the conversation. We're always happy to run through the numbers honestly for your specific home, pop into the Grove Road showroom and yap with us.

This is our 5th year attending the Sustainable Energy Association of NZ Conference ☀️

Being an active part of our industry (across Aus and NZ) is something that’s important to us, actively participating in the changes and conversations that shape the future for not just us, not just the next installer coming into the industry but for the end user.

The relationships we’ve built are the reason we can back our products, back our warranties and most importantly back ourselves to ensure you’re looked after on your solar energy journey ☀️

We’re not new to solar, and whilst some are just stepping into the industry we’ve had our feet on the ground for the last 7 years.

We’re incredibly proud to be one of two local Marlborough companies who have been listed today with achieving their Solassure Certification ahead of its launch ⚡️✨

Solassure raises the bar for the entire industry changing the way kiwis buy solar - Solar is a significant purchase, and hard to judge from a quote alone. Solassure narrows the field to installers who have met the mark's requirements.

Congratulations on the launch today SEANZ and your constant efforts on our evolving industry ☀️

Clipping the cables from your solar panels isnt about making things look tidy, it’s a critical step in the process for safety and system longevity.

Dangling wires rub against sharp metal frames and rough roofs which over time friction cuts the insulation and causes dangerous ground faults.🔥

Roof surfaces get scorching hot in NZ summer, especially black ones like this. Clipping cables keeps them suspended in the air, preventing them from melting on hot tiles or metal sheets.💨

Take a look under your panels next time you get a chance. If you see sagging wires, it is time to get them clipped! 🛠️

Storage options are hot in Marlborough at the moment 🔥 🔥

We’ve been adding storage to solar energy systems all over, retrofits to existing system are becoming more common - The Sigenergy storage solution with the built in all-in-one inverter removes the barrier of systems that were installed without a hybrid inverter on day one.

Want to chat about your exsiting PV system anf integrating storage and backup?
