Today, we put it back in the ground.

After a three-year holiday in the site nursery, this kauri is finally heading home.

Three years in a custom-made grow bag and today this mature pōhutukawa is finally heading back into the ground at the same site it originally grew on.

A fantastic outcome made possible by a landscape designer who saw the value in retaining mature canopy and bringing this tree home.

This sweet little kōwhai from the old Massey University site in Albany was given a second chance and a new home across Auckland.

A quick lift from our mates at Crane and Cartage, onto the truck, and off to its next chapter.

Small tree. Big future.

This is what a moving day looks like when the residents weigh several tonnes each.

Four mature pōhutukawa loaded and ready to make the journey across the former Villa Maria vineyard.

No shortcuts. No rush. Just skilled operators, good planning, and a lot of trust in the process.

Our hole is impressive.
The tree is even more impressive.

A glimpse beneath a mature pōhutukawa as it’s carefully lifted by Crane and Cartage and prepared for its journey to a new home.

There’s something pretty special about seeing a tree suspended between its past and future.

Before the trucks. Before the cranes.

This was the first pōhutukawa making its way across the former Massey University site in Albany to the staging area, ready for loading the following day.

A simple move on paper, but one that takes plenty of skill. Thanks, Dines operator, for making it look effortless.

If trees could talk, this one would have quite the story.

A year ago today, this pōhutukawa left one side of the former Villa Maria vineyard and travelled across the crater to begin its next chapter.

Lifted, carried, and replanted by our team, it was one of 40 mature pōhutukawa saved through transplanting on this project.

Twelve months later, it’s settled in beautifully and continues to grow exactly where it belongs.

Sometimes the best way to save a tree is to move it.
