Laundry renovations are on the rise as our clients want this room to be of a similar standard and comfort to the rest of the house.

Here are some of the things it might be worth considering if you want to upgrade your laundry space....
- put both machines under the bench - this gives more benchtop than stacking them
- make the benchtop deeper than the standard 600mm if you want your machines to sit flush

- include a rail over the sink for drying delicates
- install an extraction fan (even with vented or condenser dryers), especially if linen is stored here
- include a hamper or 2 under the bench if you have room

- include as much storage as possible to make this more of a utility space
- include some form of heating in here - there's always more washing in winter.

FINtastic!...we've suggested vertical timber fins in two of our recent projects. They spread light and make a space feel more open than a solid gib wall. They also add some architectural interest to the room.

Getting the Light Right

The right lighting can give your room the feel you want in any weather.
In this open plan space, Dave and his clients have used warm white LED strips washing over the 3 marble inserts, recessed dimmable LED downlights, and large Velux windows to bring in natural light from above.

Tip: It's important to choose the right bulb. 3000k (kelvins) will give a warm, more yellow light which is cosier in bedrooms and living spaces. 5000k and above yields a whiter, cooler light, which can be more suitable for task areas such as offices or garages.
