Lieve KNOL achterban,

Ooit begonnen we op een zomerse dag aan de Donau, waarbij de zeer poëtische naam KNOL kwam bovendrijven. Nu, bijna 9 jaar later, is het moment aangebroken om ons gemeenschappelijke avontuur te eindigen. Wij, Celine en Jorien, gaan ieder onze eigen weg.

We hebben samen veel beleefd. Maakten naam als fooddesigners zonder ooit een pan aan te raken, ontwierpen ons eerste paviljoen zonder ooit een plattegrond te tekenen en we werden door de voormalige koningin gefeliciteerd met ons glaskunstwerk zonder ooit iets van glas te blazen. Kortom, zonder jullie blinde vertrouwen waren we nooit zover gekomen.

Onze samenwerking was een wonderlijke combinatie tussen tomeloos optimisme en het talent om de controle nooit kwijt te raken. Het zorgde voor een divers palet aan projecten waarin we onszelf bleven uitdagen en verbazen. Sinds 2009 blinkt KNOL uit in ruimtelijke statements: tijdelijke werken die actuele onderwerpen tastbaar maken. De uitingsvormen die we hiervoor kozen liepen uiteen: van kantoor- tot snoeplandschappen.

We zijn jullie allen heel dankbaar voor het mogelijk maken van onze groei en alle projecten waar we zo trots op zijn!

Als goede vrienden gaan we uit elkaar. Onze verschillende wensen voor de toekomst zorgden dat we deze moeilijke maar belangrijke beslissing hebben gemaakt. Wij weten zeker dat het twee verschillende maar bijzondere ondernemingen zal opleveren en hopen dat jullie ons beiden met evenveel vertrouwen weten te vinden. Vanaf juni 2018 zal de website van KNOL als archief functioneren, en gaan we verder onder twee nieuwe namen. Neem vooral een kijkje op de websites, ze zijn beiden prachtig geworden.

Jorien zal zich toeleggen op creative direction, en benadrukt haar sterke visuele taal nog meer. Contacteer haar voor grafische concepten, (pop-up) interieurs, fotosets en merk-expressies. Ze vestigt haar studio tijdelijk in Mumbai, gefascineerd door de eclectische bollywood-stijl. Vanuit hier werkt ze aan zowel Nederlandse als Indiase projecten.

Celine vervolgt haar weg met Anna en Lion, beiden sinds 2013 nauw betrokken bij KNOL. Het drietal zal verder gaan als LONK. Ze blijven dichtbij hun roots en zullen zich nog meer gaan richten op spatial storytelling. Vraag LONK voor exposities, onderzoeks-scenario's, branding en decors. Tijdelijke ruimtes die blijvend impact maken.

We'd like to show you a project we've been working on lately, together with Placemakers ...called Amsterdam (De)Tours!

If you ever are in Amsterdam, you probably recognise the feeling of annoyance towards herds of tourists flocking on city center roads. You think to yourself: Why do they keep walking up and down the ugly road between Central Station and Dam Square?! The city has so many other interesting streets to explore…

Exactly this topic challenged the city government to re-think her urban dynamics. How can the pedestrian traffic get more in balance? How can we let streams of people spread more over the city and by this, unburden those busy central streets and pavements?

Placemakers and studio KNOL worked together on finding accessible and creative solutions for the city. We set up three small urban interventions, with the aim of subtly drawing tourists towards the slightly more unnoticeable streets.

What will become of the future of LIVING? What will our houses look like, how will we organise the city landscape? The demand for housing will grow and never stop. Enough reason to speculate. As KNOL we were asked to present our vision to a worthy audience of eldermen, architects, and yes.. prince Constantijn was there too;)

Come visit us at the Dutch Design week! Studio KNOL is part of the exhibition 'in no particular order' by het Stimuleringsfonds, presenting this years creative talents.

We reveal the first piece of our project ROOM 101.. The bathroom. Come have a look for yourself in the interactive mirror :)

The exhibition is open from 22-30 Oct on the 8th floor of het Veemgebouw, Strijp-s Eindhoven.

Back to School... usually something to get depressed about. NOT THIS TIME! We designed a photoshoot setting - including customised wooden props - for Tumble 'n Dry, a hip children's clothing brand.. motivating the little ones to get back to biz in their brand new clothes. We will post the official photos once they're in from the photographer! Here a 'tip off the veil' from the settings themselves.

3...... 2...... 1...... and our Happiness Machine is live now!!
Works like a train, never seen so many happy people together.
Okey, we will tell you the secret of what happens inside: the very convincing voice of Sarah Vink gives the visitor a boost of confidence on his appearance, a few minutes long!! and finally he is prepared to show himself to the audience. The cabin falls open and the person inside suddenly revealed..

While people are experiencing their happy moments, we are actually conducting research on what happiness means and if it can be generated by confirmation from the outside. The answer seems yes...

Getting ready for Oerol! We are building a Happiness Machine.. and inviting visitors to undergo it, with an impact yet unknown! It just might be the way to world-happiness, who knows.

Currently everyone is finalizing their part, and the machine is built up on Terschelling. Sarah Vink is it's voice, and Fons Venner it's body...

We'll keep you updated once we have pics and labrats.
