Hassan Fathy was a cosmopolitan trilingual professor-engineer-architect, amateur musician, dramatist, and inventor. Fathy has been called Egypt's best-known architect since Imhotep

Fathy incorporated dense brick walls and traditional courtyard forms to provide passive cooling in addition to windcatchers and other passive ventilation methods from traditional architecture

His world acclaimed 1973 book republished by the University of Chicago "Architecture for the Poor" shot him to worldwide prominence. The book raises some sentiment which are still valid today; considering the worldwide concern of the global warming and public health disaster.
