🐔 DIY POULTRY LESSON
THE SECRET SUPERFOODS FOR EGG-LAYING HENS
Presented by Danabs Global Farm Inputs
🎬 INTRODUCTION
“Farmers, are your laying hens producing fewer eggs than you expect? Before you start changing everything in your poultry house, let's look at some simple foods that can be used to supplement a properly balanced layer feed.
Today, I'm sharing five natural feed boosters you can easily use around your farm.”
🌻 1. SUNFLOWER SEEDS
“First are sunflower seeds.
They contain protein, energy and healthy fats and can be given to laying hens as a supplement.
You can mix a small quantity with their normal feed or offer them occasionally.
But remember—sunflower seeds are a supplement, not a complete poultry feed.”
🎃 2. PUMPKIN SEEDS
“Next are pumpkin seeds.
They contain protein, healthy fats and other nutrients.
You can clean and dry the seeds, crush them lightly, and mix a small amount with the birds' regular feed.
One important point: don't depend on pumpkin seeds to treat a worm infestation. If your birds show signs of worms, proper diagnosis and appropriate treatment are important.”
🥬 3. KALE & SPINACH
“Number three is leafy vegetables like kale and spinach.
Wash them properly, chop them into small pieces and offer them in moderation.
They can add useful vitamins and minerals to the birds' diet.
But don't allow vegetables to replace their balanced layer ration.”
🌾 4. OATS
“Number four—plain oats.
Oats can provide energy and fibre and can be mixed in small quantities with the normal feed.
If you're using oats, keep it simple. Avoid sweetened, salted or flavoured oatmeal made for humans.”
🪱 5. MEALWORMS
“And finally, we have mealworms.
Mealworms are rich in protein and fat, making them a useful occasional supplement for poultry.
Give them in moderation alongside the regular feed rather than using them as the main diet.”
🥚 THE REAL SECRET
“Now, here's something every poultry farmer needs to understand.
These foods can supplement your birds' diet, but they cannot replace a properly formulated layer feed.
For good production, your hens need the right balance of:
✅ Protein
✅ Energy
✅ Calcium
✅ Phosphorus
✅ Vitamins and minerals
✅ Clean drinking water
And don't forget calcium. A laying hen needs adequate calcium to produce strong eggshells.”
🎥 CLOSING
“So, farmers, don't just feed more—feed smarter.
