I'm a designer for 20 years and I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that:
1. I'm not perfect, but I aim for it — because I want work I'm proud to put my name on.
2. I used to walk into a room and immediately redesign it in my head. Now I just sit with it. That's how you actually see who someone is.
3. I second-guess myself constantly. I'm scared my clients won't see my vision. I'm scared I'm pushing too hard. I'm scared I'm wrong.
4. I still don't have my life, or even my identity, fully figured out. Motherhood is something I relearn every single day.
5. I'm not great at staying in touch — texting and calls aren't my thing. But put me in front of you, and I won't stop talking.
6. I have very few close friends. I come across as cold because it takes me some time to warm up to people. If you stick around, you get to know the real me!
7. I used to see everything in black and white. My kids and my husband taught me the grays.
8. I hated being in front of the camera for years because of my weight. It took a long time to love myself, scars and all.
None of this is broken. It's just who I am, still becoming.
20 years in, and I'm still learning who I am — one room, one client, one day at a time.
If designing spaces that feel like home is your thing, follow along.
