It is a useful reminder that the purchase price and the cost of ownership are two very different numbers.

Consider a simple 20-year scenario. If a €4,500 barrel sauna requires replacement every two years under commercial use, ten units amount to €45,000. Then add crane hire, removal, transport, disposal, installation and the downtime involved in every replacement.

A sauna designed for decades of use requires a larger investment at the beginning. But for a hospitality business, longevity is part of the financial model.

We recommend to calculate the cost on year twenty, not on the day of purchase.
