Andare the Court Jester's Tomb in Sri Lanka
Andare, an 18th-century court jester during the reigns of Kings Kirthi Sri Rajasinhe and Rajadhi Rajasinhe, is celebrated in Sri Lankan folklore for his sharp wit and humor. His tales, often imparting moral lessons through comedy, remain integral to the island's cultural heritage.
According to legend, Andare died of dehydration while journeying to his hometown. Upon hearing of his death, the king visited the site and, observing Andare's outstretched limbs, remarked, "Dear Andare, you continue to make me laugh even in death." This story underscores the deep bond between the jester and the monarch.
In 2001, a monument was erected at the believed site of Andare's death in Udamalala, Tissamaharama, Hambantota District. The tomb features a sculpture depicting his final moments, offering visitors a tangible connection to this historical figure.

How to Get There:
From Hambantota, travel along the Tissamaharama Road. At the Udamalala Junction, turn left and continue for about a kilometer, bypassing the lake on your route. The tomb is situated in the village of Udamalala.
For those traveling from Colombo to Dondra West, options include bus or train services. Buses from Fort Station to Matara Bus Station are available, with a journey time of approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes.

අන්දරේ යනු අටවැනි සියවසේ (18th Century) ශ්රී ලංකාවේ රාජාධිරාජසිංහ සහ කීර්ති ශ්රී රාජසිංහ රජවන්සයේ අධිකෝටික ගැමිණියෙක් (ජෝකර්) විය. ඔහුගේ වංචනාවන්, විනෝදාත්මක සිදුවීම් සහ බුද්ධිය ගැන ජනප්රවාද රැසක් ඇත.
📖 ජනප්රවාදය අනූව, ඔහු ගමනක් යන අතරතුර ජලය නොමැතිව මියගොස් ඇත. ඔහුගේ මරණය ගැන රජතුමා දැනගෙන තැනට පැමිණියා. ඔහුගේ අතපාද විහිදෙමින් සන්සුන් ලෙස සිටි අන්දරේ දැක රජතුමා පැවසූයේ,
"අන්දරේ, මියගියත් මාගේ සිනහව නැවතී නෑ!"
