Recently we shared one of the most important things we learned from conversations with community groups.
Communities already support each other during medical emergencies.
That led us to ask.
What if communities didn't have to wait until someone was already in hospital before mobilizing support?
Over the past few weeks, our thinking has evolved.
We've realised that the challenge is not whether people are willing to contribute.
The challenge is how to create a structured community health fund that healthcare providers can trust, communities can sustain, and members can rely on when they need care most.
This is the direction AfyaShare Africa is now exploring.
Not replacing the spirit of community, but strengthening it with a sustainable system.
Over the coming weeks, we'll begin engaging healthcare providers, faith-based organisations, and community leaders to understand what it would take to make a community-funded healthcare model work in practice.
If you work in healthcare, manage a clinic or hospital, lead a church or community organisation, or have experience in health financing, we'd love to engage with you. Email us to : [email protected]
