Hangit upcycled wire hangers

Hangit upcycled wire hangers looking at the pile of hangers that i had put aside to give back to the dry cleaner's, it occurred to me that something can be done with those beauties!

It started with a neatly stacked pile of wire hangers waiting to be returned to the drycleaner’s as usual. Although drycleaners prefer brand new hangers rather than slightly deformed second-hand ones, it did seem like the right thing to do with those excess hangers, Up until they struck me as beautiful blue abstract shapes that opened a world of endless possibilities for me. That is when I decided

to explore the form and shape of a wire hanger as a building block. I was further encouraged when online research showed that it is very rarely used as an up-cycled material. Hangers have a simple yet captivating role; they are mainly a representation of the human shoulders, and are there to fill in the space when humans are not. The rounded hook holds the hanger upright, and the side edges holds the piece of clothing. This results in their unique shape, and structurally self-holding nature. hangit respects the shape of the hanger, and tries to minimalize the use of other materials. Each part of the hanger is crucial in establishing ties with other hangers. Thus in most hangit objects the hanger is used in its pure form, and is a constituent structural part of the piece. However certain pieces require the presence of a sounder structural cage to hold them, sometimes to generate a certain required shape (circular or cylindrical) or to withstand larger weights (such as seating pieces). Pieces that suffice with wire hangers are more valuable to hangit, such as the book holder. A hanger’s triangular shape results in endless variations of patterns, and three-dimensional modules which when repeated can create a large dynamic piece, which is the upcoming experimental phase of the project. hangit pieces are elegant, handmade, low-cost, dynamic, functional, and re-usable; simply dismantle the piece and redesign, or use the hangers as their originally intended role!
