Today I noticed something really strange in a hidden corner of my garage. At first, I thought it looked like little strands of hair growing straight out of the ground! 🧐

I have no idea what it is, and now I’m wondering if it could be something harmful or toxic. Should I be worried, and how should I safely remove it? I was even wondering if bleach would help, but I don’t want to make things worse. 😰

Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? Any idea what it could be?
Thank you so much for your help! 🤗

STORY TIME! 🦫😂 I came home from the grocery store to find my bathroom door wouldn't open.

Spring 2013. I was raising an orphaned beaver kit named Buttons. His family's lodge had been destroyed by flooding, and at 3 weeks old he was the only survivor.

Here's the thing about beavers: nobody teaches them to build. It's pure instinct. And Buttons had decided that my bathroom needed a dam.

Every towel. Every bath mat. Two rolls of toilet paper. My husband's bathrobe. A plunger. All of it neatly stacked against the door, and Buttons sitting on top like a very proud little engineer.

I had to go in through the window. My husband held the ladder and laughed so hard he nearly dropped me.

Buttons now lives with a big beaver family on a protected creek. I like to think he's still the best builder on the pond. 🥰

STORY TIME! 🎄 The smallest patient I ever had weighed less than a penny.

December 2010. A freak ice storm, and a late-migrating hummingbird had been found frozen stiff to a neighbor's feeder. Ethel, 76, carried him to me cupped in both hands inside her mitten, walking half a mile on the ice. At her age! I scolded her. She scolded me right back. 😄

He was too weak to fly south, so he spent the winter in my kitchen. A warm lamp, a tiny feeder, and a potted Christmas cactus he claimed as his own.

Every morning at 7 sharp, he'd zip over and hover an inch from my nose, demanding breakfast. My husband called him "the landlord."

In April, when the first redbuds bloomed, we opened the window. He hovered in front of me one last time… and he was gone.

Ethel and I stood at that window and cried like two old fools. Best Christmas guest we ever had. 💚

Girls, I need your help 😥 I found this tiny worm in my house and I’m honestly a little worried because it has never happened to me before!

I have no idea where it came from, and now I’m wondering if there might be others hiding somewhere. 😰

Do you know what it could be? Could it have come in from outside, or perhaps from some food, a plant, or somewhere else?

What should I check first to make sure there aren’t any more around the house?

Thank you so much to anyone who can help me figure this out! ❤️🙏

"Ruth, I found a kitten, but he's… a little bit mean."

That's how Loretta, a sweet 70-year-old retired schoolteacher, introduced me to the "kitten" in her shoebox. She'd found him crying under her woodpile and had been feeding him warm milk with an eyedropper for two days.

I opened the lid. Two furious little eyes. Tufted ears. A stubby tail. Spots.

"Loretta, honey, that is a bobcat."

She put her hand on her chest and said, completely serious: "Well. That explains the biting."

We got that baby on proper formula right away, and with a lot of patience he grew into a gorgeous wild cat. He was released on 200 acres of protected forest the next fall.

Loretta came to the release in her Sunday hat. As he bolted into the trees she waved and called out, "Mind your manners!" 😂

STORY TIME! 💕 Look closely. Count the babies. I'll wait. 😄

August 2008. A trucker pulled over on Highway 70 and called me from a gas station. He'd seen an opossum on the shoulder, "just sitting there, looking like she was wearing a backpack."

She was. Eleven babies clung to her fur. Her back leg was hurt and she couldn't walk far with all that weight, but she would NOT let go of a single one.

That big trucker, a tough-looking fella with tattooed arms, sat on the curb with a blanket over her until I arrived. He'd missed his delivery window. He said, "My boss can wait. She can't."

Mama healed in six weeks. Every single one of her eleven babies made it. On release day I sent that trucker a photo, and he wrote back: "Best late delivery I ever made."

Opossums are gentle, they eat thousands of ticks, and they are wonderful mothers. They deserve a little more love. 🥰"
