You qualify if:
1. The connection is residential. Commercial and industrial are excluded.
2. Your sanctioned load is 10 kW or below.
3. You have an Aadhaar-seeded bank account — the subsidy comes by direct transfer.
4. You install through an MNRE-empanelled vendor with compliant equipment.

Miss any one and the money does not come. We have watched customers lose it on the bank account detail alone.

We handle the portal registration, the DISCOM feasibility, the technical approval and the net metering file. You handle the roof.

3 kW is now the most important number in Kerala solar.

Under the new rules, 3 kW is the ceiling for true net metering on a domestic connection.

Go above it without a battery and you shift into net billing, where surplus is bought back at a feed-in tariff instead of credited unit-for-unit.

That does not automatically make bigger systems wrong. A house with heavy daytime load — AC, pump, work-from-home — often still wins at 5 kW because it self-consumes most of what it makes.

It does mean the honest answer to 'what size should I install?' is now 'show me your bill first.'

Anyone quoting you a size over the phone is guessing with your money.

Kerala changed the rules on solar in January. Most people still don't know.

The KSERC 2025 regulations took effect on 6 November 2025 and the new billing system went live on 1 January 2026.

There are now three ways your solar can talk to the grid:

• Net metering — up to 3 kW (5 kW with battery). Exported units credited against your bill, exactly as before.
• Net billing — up to 500 kW. Surplus paid at a feed-in tariff, 1.5x standard rate during peak hours.
• Gross metering — up to 3 MW. Everything exported at 125% of SECI rates.

Which one you land in is decided by system size. Which means sizing is no longer just an engineering decision — it is a financial one.
