Restoring History at Rockfleet Castle, Newport, Co. Mayo

At Mavericks Project Limited, we recently had the privilege of working alongside the Office of Public Works (OPW) on the restoration of the rainwater goods at the historic Rockfleet Castle in Newport, Co. Mayo.

Rockfleet Castle, a 16th-century stronghold famously associated with Grace O’Malley, the legendary Pirate Queen of Ireland, stands as an enduring symbol of Ireland’s rich maritime heritage. Protecting and preserving such a landmark is a responsibility we take to heart, and being entrusted with this project was both an honour and a testament to the quality of our craftsmanship.

Our work involved the careful restoration of the castle’s rainwater goods, ensuring they were in keeping with the character and history of the building while meeting modern performance standards. We are proud to have played a role in safeguarding this iconic structure for future generations to appreciate and enjoy
