Toilet leaks can be a real pain, but if you catch them early they’ll be more manageable and could save you some more serious plumbing problems down the road.
One of the places you’ll likely find a leak is in your toilet’s flush valve seal. The flush valve seal is what keeps water from flowing from the tank to the bowl of your toilet when it isn’t in flushing mode. Catching a leak in your flush valve seal early requires a simple test: food colouring.
No, you didn’t misread that. All it takes is a couple of drops of food colouring in your toilet tank. Check back in a few hours. If some of the coloured water has found its way into your toilet bowl, that means you have a leak.

Prevent Your Plumbing From Freezing
This is definitely not a problem in the summer months, it is a totally different story once winter comes around bringing those low to sub zero temperatures. If they get low enough, your plumbing is at increased risk of freezing. The best advice we can give you is to make sure that you always have air circulating throughout your home, this temperature should be no less than 16 degrees Celsius. Insulation of the wall plumbing lines will help to avoid potential freezing issues. Insulation should be tackled during the warmer months of the year. Always checking your outdoor taps prevents frozen pipe problems. We would suggest draining the garden hose valve and the hose itself of all water before the winter months.

Always Use A Strainer
Clogs are one of the most common plumbing problems. When it comes to a shower or sink drain, it can become gross and messy due to hair and soap residue. In the kitchen however you could prevent such issues with the simple use of a strainer to catch any food particles thus preventing a very unpleasant task in the future.

ANOTHER HAPPY CLIENT.
One of our most recent clients purchased a property 15 months ago back in March which needed extensive refurbishment. This property was approximately 100 years old which had no central heating system. They needed a professional!! They reached out to Pad who immediately came across trustworthy and made a really good first impression. Upon choosing to do a lot of the structural work himself the client found it beneficial that Pat was happy to work in tandem with them. The client explained that Pat's knowledge was top Drawer and he was always keen to pass on any insights that would be beneficial to the project in the long term. A simple example was in the case of the upstairs bathroom with a sloping roof & custom shower where he explained blocking up the window & using a different arrangement would utilise all the space. A truly Excellent job would highly recommend McGuirks Plumbing. There was a slight delay possibly due to Covid-19 and the backlog of jobs Pat and the team are dealing with.

Don’t Pour Grease or Oil Down the Drain.
When you eat greasy food you should never dump the excess grease or oil down the drain. You will not notice it at first but the grease and oil will ultimately build up. People often think that as a liquid, it's ok to pour down the sink. But little by little that grease and oil will clog your pipes and leave you with some serious plumbing problems.Think about your pipes before pouring that cooking liquid down the drain, and opt for a safer disposal option. For example, wait for fat to solidify before throwing it in your compost bin.

We recently helped a local client in Coolock with the age-old problem of The boiler Acting Up. Our Response time as always was very quick. First, we added a solution to test the system, after finding a leak in the house we did a complete clean out of the system. Added External Tank with a magnet cleaner due to hard water in the area, we managed to change faulty parts and keep the existing boiler. Job well done. Our client was impressed with the lad’s cleanliness, tidiness & with our application to Covid-19 regulations, social distance & Mask Wearing.

This unfortunately is something that you can not fix without a professional plumber. All Pipes that are cracked, broken, or that have water damage can affect the function & integrity of your entire water system. Failure to address this this problem may result in future repairs that are both frustrating and costly. We recently completed an en-suite bathroom renovation for a returning client in swords. There were a number of issues to be resolved before the refurbishment job could be tackled; a disconnected pipe in the attic, other pipe blockages and considerable mould behind the shower/tiles and on the ceiling. Full consultation with the client both before and during the project and the client was kept in the loop at all times both in terms of what needed to be done and, most importantly, associated costs.
