A beautiful sash window restoration completed.

Rather than replacing these original timber sash windows, we carefully restored them to preserve the character of the property while significantly improving their performance and efficiency.

Restoration work on a W Richardson & Co Glasshouse in Johnstown Castle in 2022.

Part of my work on this project was the hand-cutting and putty glazing of the roof, front elevation, and gable walls, involving over 1,400 individual glass panes. Each pane was cut to a traditional beaver-tail shape, designed to work within an overlapping system that sheds water down the glazing surface and away from the timber glazing bars. The panes were installed using a layout similar to slate roofing, helping to preserve the structure

Jamie and the team were on site this week at Friends of Rathaspeck Church, carefully removing the historic windows for repair as part of the Rathaspeck Restoration Project.

In this video, Jamie explains the work involved in restoring these important original features and the craftsmanship required to preserve them for future generations.
