The original space was mostly lawn, with a small shed and very little structure or functionality. Our aim was to create a garden that felt larger, more inviting and much more connected to the house, while giving the family different spaces to enjoy throughout the day.

I wish more people knew that choosing beautiful materials matters, but how they’re laid matters just as much.

The right materials can completely transform a garden — but even the most beautiful materials need precision, care and attention to detail to achieve the result they deserve.

From the alignment of every slab to the consistency of every joint, these details may seem small, but together they make a huge difference to the finished space.

How do you rejuvenate a mature garden without losing its character?

For this project, we worked with the existing garden rather than starting again.

We replaced the paving and pathways, improved circulation and drainage, and created a better connection between the different spaces — all while respecting the traditional character of the house.

The sunny area was rarely used because it felt too exposed, so we introduced a pergola that works as both a feature and a privacy screen, softened with planting.

And the bench? Designed to be enjoyed even from inside the house — becoming part of the garden view, just as the client requested.

How to make your budget work for your garden. Swipe to see how we break a garden renovation into three phases →

You don't need to build everything at once. With the right strategy, you can spread the cost over time while making sure every phase fits perfectly into the final design.

Phase 1 – The Foundations: These are the most difficult and expensive elements to change later, so getting them right from the beginning is crucial.

Phase 2 – The Structure: Create the framework of your garden with secondary patios and pathways, retaining walls, steps, fencing, raised beds and pergolas.

Phase 3 – The Finishing Touches: Bring your garden to life over time by adding ornamental planting, lawn, outdoor lighting, furniture, fire pits, water features and decorative details.
