In this project, our main goal was to make the most of the available space, provide easy access to the rear garden, and ensure privacy from the nearby road. To achieve this, we opted for bay laurel hedging due to its sturdy structure and excellent privacy features, creating a lush boundary that not only enhances the rear garden but also acts as a natural screen.
Our vision went beyond mere functionality. We aimed to create a garden where every corner told its own story, with paving and play spaces seamlessly integrated around the house.
And then, there's the shaded retreat—a hidden treasure waiting to be discovered. Here, we crafted a cozy architectural space, offering a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the outside world. Soft lighting, comfortable seating, and the gentle rustle of leaves overhead invite you to relax and reconnect with nature.
For drainage, we installed a pebble driveway to ensure efficient water flow. Granite steps at the front entrance complemented the dash-effect on walls beautifully. Additionally, we designed a practical bin area and installed a low gate with electric functions to enhance both privacy and convenience at the front of the property. Plus, a low-maintenance planting area at the front of the house adds to the overall charm and functionality of the space.

Garden Design Brief: Midlands Project
The garden design project in the Midlands seeks to transform the outdoor space of a newly rebuilt property, weaving beauty and functionality into every corner. The design envisions multiple seating areas that not only complement the architecture but also enhance the overall usability of the outdoor expanse.

Seating Areas: Enchanting seating areas are thoughtfully positioned to invite relaxation and enjoyment, seamlessly integrating with the new build.

Outdoor Room and Terracing: A captivating outdoor room extends the living space, while elegantly terraced levels adorned with bullnose-finished granite steps add a touch of sophistication.

Shed Area: A shed area, equipped with roller doors, provides a practical yet aesthetically pleasing storage solution.

Front Door and Courtyard:
Courtyard: The front door opens into a quaint small courtyard area where cars can pause, leading visitors into a , beautifully planted area that sets a welcoming tone.

Materials and Planting
Fencing: The garden is framed by durable composite fencing in a sleek charcoal finish, offering both modernity and longevity.
Planting: Soft, structural planting schemes introduce texture and color, creating a harmonious year-round visual delight.

Ground Preparation
Tarmac Finish: The grounds are meticulously prepared for a final tarmac finish, promising a surface that is both durable and low-maintenance, enhancing the garden's practicality.

Garden Design Transformation in Clonee, Dublin
Brief:
A detached house with a north-east facing garden in Clonee, Dublin, sought a complete garden transformation. The homeowners desired a patio area to maximize their outdoor space usage, surrounded by lush herbaceous planting. They wanted grass areas to soften and complete the garden composition and lighting to create an inviting atmosphere at night.

Before:
The garden initially featured a bare, underutilized space with uneven ground and sparse vegetation. The area lacked a designated seating area and was not conducive to enjoying outdoor activities.

After:
The transformed garden is now a beautiful, functional outdoor space that meets all the homeowners' needs.

Patio Area: A spacious patio now anchors the garden, providing a perfect spot for relaxation and entertaining.
Surrounding Planting: The patio is bordered by vibrant herbaceous plants, adding color and texture while blending seamlessly with the natural environment.
Grass Areas: Lush grass areas soften the overall design, providing a contrast to the patio and creating a harmonious balance.
Lighting: Thoughtfully placed garden lights illuminate the space at night, enhancing its beauty and usability.

This modern home required a low-impact, minimalist finish, and we delivered beautifully. We used Liscannor crazy paving for an informal style and low plastered walls to add texture and character. Soft planting complemented the house, creating a harmonious and inviting space that blends seamlessly with the minimalist aesthetic.

To soften the front, we used a large gravel stone boulder finish within the planting, adding contrast and resilience with subtle Japanese overtones. Additionally, we incorporated a vegetable garden featuring a KBS greenhouse, blending functionality and beauty for sustainable living. The greenhouse integrates smoothly with the garden design, adding a practical element for growing fresh produce.

The result is a serene and stylish retreat that balances nature and design. The careful selection of materials and plants creates a cohesive outdoor space that reflects modern sensibilities and a deep appreciation for natural beauty. Whether enjoying a quiet moment or cultivating home-grown vegetables, this outdoor area offers a versatile and aesthetically pleasing environment for the homeowners.

This planned garden design features terraced levels bordered by sturdy chunky plastered walls, offering both structural support and visual appeal. Warm brown sandstone paving adds texture and charm to the pathways, creating an inviting atmosphere.

As you meander through the garden, a clear pathway guides you to a lower garden area, seamlessly merging with grassy areas to create a natural linear flow throughout the entire space. Wexford pebble is used for contrast on the pathway.

In one of the flower beds, vibrant verbena blooms add a splash of color and attract pollinators, Surrounding all planted areas are granite tumbled cobbles measuring 200x100, providing a neat and defined border to the garden beds.

Overall, this garden is designed for easy maintenance, offering a harmonious blend of structure and practicality. It invites you to relax and enjoy the serenity of nature without the hassle of constant upkeep.

During my recent visit to northern Spain I visited Marimurtra Botanical Garden, founded by Carl Faust, a German businessman driven by his love for nature, With its roots in Faust's philanthropic vision, the garden offers visitors a rich tapestry of experiences, seamlessly blending scientific marvels with breathtaking vistas of the Costa Brava coastline. As I leisurely wandered through carefully crafted pathways, I found myself enveloped in a world of botanical delights. Each corner revealed a new surprise, showcasing the meticulous planning and dedication poured into creating this oasis. From the vibrant ostespermums to the delicate gazinas, typically associated with Ireland's summer months, the garden's compact and well-designed spaces invited exploration and appreciation. For anyone yearning to reconnect with the splendor of the natural world, Marimurtra Botanical Garden is a sanctuary of tranquility and wonder. Well worth a visit if you are in the region .

In designing the country garden in midlands to fulfill the client's wishes, we meticulously crafted functional areas tailored to the family's lifestyle and preferences. Understanding the importance of cultivating a warm and inviting ambiance, we carefully integrated a seating area featuring a captivating fire element, ideal for fostering intimate gatherings and moments of relaxation. To imbue the landscape with visual charm and allure, we strategically positioned low-maintenance shrubs and herbaceous plants around the seating enclave, introducing vibrant splashes of color and textural diversity.

Acknowledging the potential challenges posed by windy conditions, we thoughtfully introduced a windbreak behind the seating space, providing shelter and augmenting comfort. This thoughtful inclusion ensures that the family can fully enjoy the garden's amenities regardless of the weather conditions prevailing.

Responding to the client's aspiration for an outdoor retreat, we seamlessly integrated composite decking and an outdoor room, crafting a visually striking and highly functional space. The selection of grey limestone, accentuated by granite sets serving as edging, infuses an air of elegance while defining the boundaries of the outdoor sanctuary, harmonizing the design elements cohesively.

In essence, the design of the country garden harmoniously blends practicality with aesthetics, presenting the family with a versatile outdoor haven that caters to their diverse needs while exuding elements of timeless beauty and style.
