Nobody sets out to be the person who lets clients down 👀

Everyone assumes it’s a character thing. Overpromising, didn’t care enough…occasionally true but mostly not.

What actually happens is a little more…boring 😅

You sell something you fully mean to deliver brilliantly, then the tenth client turns up while the ninth is still going, and there’s no process and no capacity model. So it slips, quietly. A reply takes four days instead of one.

The tells show up long before anyone complains:

⇾ Quoting turnarounds you’d need a clear week to hit
⇾ Saying yes while hoping something else falls through
⇾ Feeling relieved when a client goes quiet

I’ve been all three, which is why I put a max number on retainer clients.

It’s not a you problem or a character problem, it’s a design one.

Which is good news, because you can fix a design. 🧭

Three jobs that quietly shaped everything.

Before the businesses, there were three role I didn’t realise at the time were building something.

🔴 Comic Relief - the year of Dermot’s 24-hour danceathon. I joined for the campaign and honestly? It might be the most fun I’ve ever had at work. It’s also where I felt for the first time what a team with real purpose looks like from the inside.

🎶 Nordoff Robbins - music industry events, fundraising admin, donor relationships. Not the flashiest role on paper, but where I learned that the people holding it all together are just as important as anyone in the room.

🎭 Wales Millennium Centre - pitching for sponsorship, making the case for partnership, building relationships with some brilliant organisations. In one of the most stunning buildings in Wales. The strategic brain started here.

Three roles. Music, theatre, comedy, and work that actually mattered.

Every single one of them shows up in how I work today ✨

The most expensive sentence in business...

‘’This is the how we’ve always done it’’.

Sounds harmless...but in reality it’s costing you time, money, and growth.

Because when you’re deep inside your own operations, you stop noticing the inefficiencies. You work around the problems instead of fixing them.

🚨 And that’s how businesses slowly become stuck

✅ Your team spends hours every week on a manual process that could be automated.
✅ Decision-making drags because no one really knows who owns what.
✅ You’re hitting roadblocks—but assume “that’s just how it is.”

A fresh perspective changes everything.

Someone who isn’t emotionally attached to “how things have always been” can:

🔎 Spot hidden inefficiencies
🔎 Challenge outdated processes
🔎 Introduce smarter, more scalable solutions

Even small tweaks can have a massive impact on efficiency, profitability, and growth.

So let’s be honest - if you had to guess, what’s ONE process in your business that probably isn’t as efficient as it could be?

More time is not what you need...

At some point, every business owner has to make a choice:

👉 Keep throwing out freebies, masterclasses, and content without a strategy - hoping something sticks

👉 OR step back, prioritise, and focus on what will actually move things forward

If you’re always in “go, go, go” mode, it feels like you’re making progress. But if you’re not clear on the why behind what you’re doing, you’re just spinning wheels.

What happens when you shift from ‘busy’ to ‘strategic’?

✅ Instead of launching random offers, you refine your core services - so clients start coming to you, not the other way around.
✅ Instead of chasing engagement, you create content that actually converts - because it speaks directly to your ideal client’s needs.
✅ Instead of saying yes to every opportunity, you double down on what aligns with your long-term vision - so you grow faster with less effort.

The most sustainable way to scale? Cut the noise, focus on impact, and move with intention.

💚💚

The bottom line is ↓

I made the scary decision to reduce my capacity right down in the lead-up to the Summer because I knew I had family trips planned, a 2-week trip around Ireland & then an amazing but pretty unexpected house renovation to start 🏡

Even though I was working much less in my business I still managed to bring new enquiries and clients into my world....how?

👉🏻 SWIPE through for some math we can all get on board with 😂

The bottom line is...when you consistently provide a great experience and deliver what you set out to, your reputation naturally becomes your most powerful marketing tool.

Your reputation is your best asset - nurture it, and it will work for you 💁🏻‍♀️

So many business owners get bitten on the bum because of this😰

Ever found yourself casually promising a flat fee incentive or a free strategy session in exchange for a referral? It seems simple enough, right?

But fast forward six months... that client just ‘cashed in’ their reward, and suddenly, you’re on the hook for a 90-minute session you hadn’t planned for 😳

I get it – you want to honour your word. But let’s be real: six months is a LONG time to be doling out unexpected incentives and scrambling to fit in extra sessions.

🚨 This is why having clear terms in place is crucial. Not only does it protect your time and resources, but it also ensures everyone is on the same page from the get-go.

Your terms should lay down the rules...

➡︎ What the incentive is for a specific offer
➡︎ How they ‘claim’ their reward and when (e.g within 3 months of the conversion)
➡︎ The steps the new, referred, client needs to take to reach out to you

So many business owners have told me they’ve been bitten on the bum because they’ve left the referral offer open ended 🫣

This is exactly why I’ve included terms in Activate Your Referrals: The Toolkit so that you you’ll never have to find a spare 90mins or pay a £250 invoice unexpectedly again!

You need to switch the referral🚰 on…

There’s 2 main reasons for a business not getting referrals (well actually there’s 3 👇🏻)

1️⃣ You either don’t have a referral process or haven’t communicated that you have one

2️⃣ Your process is overcomplicated and your clients don’t know how to refer you easily

3️⃣ Your business isn’t currently referral-ready, meaning your client experience isn’t a show stopper…yet!

Your current clients could be THE source of leads that’s responsible for the majority of your business.. you just need to turn that tap on 🤩

Need a ready-made referral process to plug in to your business? 👇🏻

🔗 Activate Your Referrals includes all the strategy, templates and resources you need to leverage your client base and create a sales engine for your business.
