Matthew 12:13–14 (KJV)
>13 “Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.”
14 “Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.”
Meaning
Jesus was in the synagogue and encountered a man whose hand was withered. The Pharisees were watching Jesus closely because they wanted to accuse Him of breaking the Sabbath if He healed the man.
Jesus told the man, “Stretch forth thine hand.” When the man obeyed, his hand was completely restored.
But instead of rejoicing over the man's healing, the Pharisees became angry and began planning against Jesus.
The lesson:
Jesus has power to restore what is damaged or broken.
Faith and obedience can involve simply responding to Jesus' instruction.
Religious opposition does not stop God's work.
The passage also shows that human rules and attitudes should never become more important than compassion and doing good.
Jesus makes this point explicitly in verse 12: “Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.”
